I might not be ready for summer to come to an end, but at least my classroom is ready to go!

    My 2012-2013 Classroom

The only thing I have left to do is print the bell schedules and print the stickers with the kids' names to put on the desks so they can find their seats the first day. I can't put out name stickers until after open house. When I put them out before, kids (and parents) want to look around to see who is in the class and then want to make seating or schedule changes. Not happening.

I go back July 30th. Kids come back August 7th. That's a week later than we started last year!

Looks really good! I can't believe you're already good to go and you have another week before you have to be back. That used to be me, many years ago... lol. :)

We never have any time to work once we start back. It's just meeting after meeting. I need time to go in and take my time. It only took me two days, and that was just working at my own pace.

I get that! I usually have my room done before we have to be back, too because I like to spend time socializing and catching up with my teacher buddies that I haven't seen all summer.

Super, super cute! It's so neat and organized. I love the curtains that hide some of the supplies. By the way, what is "Student Responders?" I couldn't quite figure that out. Is it just the students' names for attendance, or what do you use that for?

They are answer pads for the SmartBoard. Some people call them "clickers".

For the 2nd year in a row, due to construction, we can't get into our rooms until the first day of preservice. Makes for a long few days since we have meetings all day.

I envy your classroom. That would be a lot of work for me. Although, I have not seen my classroom yet. It's a beauty, indeed.

So true. I've been going back and forth to school for a couple hours at a time randomly this summer because I know I won't stay put and work in the brief room time we are alloted.

As always, I love your room Ima. I envy your podium. I showed a picture of it to some shop kids and they made me one, but mine is huge. It looks nothing like yours. I love that they made it for me, but I have no idea what to do with it. It's a behemoth, and it's hot pink! I'll have to post a picture. lol

Your room looks awesome!!!!!. I have been coming up with as many excuses as I can think of to keep from going over too much early. I will probably start going Monday for a couple of hours at a time since we have been getting "calendar e-mails" for a while and I know that I am only going to have a couple of hours on the 31st (nothing on the 30th from what I am able to tell since it's supposed to be a "day long" meeting - last year it was 8 hours) and our open house is the 1st for "Meet the Teacher" and our kids come the 3rd.

What grade do you teach? Your room is super cute & colorful! :thumb:

The Vistaprint banner will hold up. I made one last year & love it! :D

Also I love your idea with tardy students. It's a great way to eliminate the discussion & excuses (real or fake) that occur when students are late.

I think it's a great room, especially since you teach middle school. I remember most of my junior high classrooms being pretty simple and bare.

That QR scanner thingie for the smart phone looks interesting. Can you explain this? How does it work? How did you make it?

    Ima,

I love your room. Last year, when I taught middle school, I was (pretty much) the only teacher who had a classroom that was colorful and inviting. You've proven that you can teach middle school and still have a cute room! :thumb:

I made it here. I used the plain text one and just typed in all of my contact information. I tried a "fancy" one at first, but it had too much detail in it and wouldn't scan on my iPod. This one is more simple. I could also have had it link to my webpage, but I thought basic contact information would work better. It saves as a picture file, so I can put it anywhere I want.

I made them from sheets I bought at Walmart. I measured the shelves, cut the fabric to length, hemmed it, and put button holes along the top. I hot glue small clear Command hooks to the shelves and then hook the button holes over the hooks.

Thanks for all the compliments. I really like my classroom. I've been there since the building opened in 1998, so I have learned where everything works best, but I do change a few things from year to year. I want my room to look decent because I spend a lot of time in there.

The kids say that they like my organization. I don't like clutter, so I try to keep things as "put away" as possible. The curtains help me hide things. The tablecloth on the student supply table hides six plastic totes of novel unit materials.

    Looks great!

I made my QR Code to link to my website, mainly because from the homepage you can easily click on my name and it takes the user to their emai to send me a message.

I used another program and tried the text only, but it was a the notepad and couldn't be copied and pasted or clicked.

I hope what I did will be useful...

My school webpage is hard to navigate on a mobile phone. I actually thought it was really cool to have the website pop up . . . until I tried actually use it. That's when I went with the basic text file.

The ones that are up now don't change. They're the ones that I reference with every unit. I have some others that only make appearances when we're talking about a certain topic. I usually hang them on the whiteboard with magnets, but I've also got some Stikki-Clips (with the wax removed and hot-glue added) that I have under the SmartBoard and on the back of the door. I'll put them there sometimes, too.

I'm not really sure. I did measure it one year, but I have no idea of the exact dimensions anymore. Seems like it's something like 26.5 X 29.
