I have worked in my classroom for the past two days, and I am FINISHED! I worked from 10:30-7:45 yesterday and 9:00-7:30 today. I still have a few little things to do, but it's basically finished. It doesn't take me too long to get my room ready since I've been in the same room for 12 years. I know all the possible layouts. I just pick one and go with it.

This is what my room looked like when I got started yesterday.

Here are some more BEFORE pictures.

And here is what my room looked like when I left today.

You room is awesome :) I can't believe you did all that in two days. I really like the way your desks are arranged.

Love the room!! And the striped curtains look really good in the room. So when I get my room, are you going to come help me decorate it?

Oh! You did a lot of work! Very cool- I like that set up- facing each other. I never thought of that way, but wow that is really great- it makes it seem so roomy and spacious. Out of curiosity, would you mind sharing why you have that particular arrangement and how it works with your students and what you teach? Do they share a lot of their writings because I can see it being pretty great for that. I love it!

I teach from both ends of my classroom, and I roam around a lot. Plus the arrangement allows me to be close to any kid in just a few steps.

I teach 7th grade language arts, and we do a lot of reading and writing. I like the kids being able to see each other . . . most of the time. Sometimes hormones get the better of them, and they gaze longingly at each other across the room.

I absolutely love your room, especially the arrangement. I may try to arrange my desks in a similar fashion. My desks are very much like yours, and I haven't been able to find an arrangement other than traditional rows that I like. Thanks for sharing! I love getting to see other middle school rooms. :)

Love it! I'd give my eye teeth for windows - even 1 window! My floor is pea soup green linoleum tile, it is an inside room. I'll have to try to take pics this year when I'm done. Your room looks big too. I don't have a closet - just a rolling cabinet. Just having a bit of trouble organizing this year - lots of other things on my mind I guess.

I have similar desks - though I do like the feet on yours - did you put them on yourself?

I have my desks in six groups of 4 (optomistic that none of my classes will have more than 24 kids). Two face each other and the other two face them - looks like this:
    ><
    ^^

There are two groups in the center of the room in a straight line. The outer two groups are tilted so all can see the board. This arrangement encourages group work, allows me easy access to all students, and allows me to keep certain kids with their backs to each other but not to the front of the room.

Oh, I love looking at pictures, and these are lovely! I'm envious of your SMART board, your closets, and just how nice and organized it is! I had to clean everything out of my room and it's being used for summer school. I'm afraid what I'll find when I go back!

I love your room and think it looks perfect for a middle school setting!

I started on my room today... should have taken some before pics- it was a hot mess. Hope to finish most of it today and will probably be done Mon or Tues.

The gray balls on the chair legs are from Decker Equipment. I don't really like the tennis balls that other teachers use, so I asked for the gray balls. The principal ordered them, and the custodians put them on. They're not cheap, but I think they'll outlast my desks!

The cross-stitch on my door is done on vinyl coated cross-stitch fabric. I put it up with hot glue.

Your room looks great! I love to see a teacher utilize her space. Can you believe that I have been teaching for almost four years now and I have not returned to the same classroom even once? :dizzy:

When does your school let back in session? The students return August 23 for us and we're not allowed to get into our room and start setting up until the 17th of August. You're so lucky!!

Oh, I want to come and visit and play that day! It is always fun to have a ball to toss back and forth! We do that to tally land vs. water. Always exciting!
Hmm, I do not suppose I could use this for an early childhood room. Generally, we have round tables anyhow. But a second grade room, I think I would at least try it later in the year. I like it, especially to share writing and everything. It is worth a try. I am going to do a rough outline and put it in my file.

I didn't have my own classroom until my fifth year. I was always sharing a room or switching rooms every class period. When I finally did get my own room, it was super tiny, but I was still thrilled. I had that room for three years before we moved to our new building.

I start back Friday. Kids come back August 5th. They're waxing hallways starting Monday, and we have meetings starting August 2nd. I was cutting it close getting into my room to work.
