Hello...I'm almost finished creating an end-of-year picture show for the sixth grade awards ceremony this week. I need a couple more songs, so do you all know some fitting selections?

Not all of the songs I've used so far are sentimental or "school related", but they go well with the pictures. For example, for a series of pictures of students in awkward or silly situations, like a girl standing in front of a huge blow up t-rex acting like she is about to be supper, I used "Help!". Now, though, I'd like a couple more general, maybe even cliché, songs. Thank you so much!

    we're gonna be friends-white stripes
pure imagination-a lot of people have done this song
    you've got a friend in me-toy story
it's so hard to say goodbye-boyz II men
    stand by me-Ben E. King
    good riddance-green day

If they are graduating from sixth grade
you could throw in graduation by vitamin c

But, there is a song by Hans Zimmer it is the main theme from the movie True Romance. This song works really well with slide shows, though there are no words in the song. there are so many great songs to use perhaps the best suggestion is for you to go to youtube.com and look up other slide shows of graduation, or end of the year type videos. While you are there you can look up the Hans Zimmer song. I think the title might be "you're so cool."

We ended our year with "Who Let the Dogs Out" playing over the loudspeaker. Of course the kids were all in the back playground because of the tower thing so they didn't enjoy it as much as we thought they would! :)

This is my favorite school-related song ever!
Hearing it puts me in a 'September back-to-school' mode every time.

I already have "Time of Your Life" as the ending song...I really love that song. I have two White Stripes CDs but not with "We're Gonna Be Friends"...I'll have to check on that!

Thanks for the great suggestions everyone! Back to work on it. :)

I do not have expertise in this subject, but I would suggest a harry belafonte song, or something summer related.

Do you really want to make 'em cry?

I Will Remember You - Sarah McLachlan

    Works every time.

There's also "unwritten". I used this as the first poem of the day with my seventh graders this year.

Another song that will bring em to tears- Forever Young by Rod Stewart. I cry when I hear it just thinking about my little ones leaving in June, and I'm not even their parents!!

I was stuck between Forever Young by Rod Stewart and I Will Remember You by Sarah McLachlin but I ended up with My Wish by Rascal Flatts. I am not a country music fan but it brought tears to my eyes the first time I heard it (it still does). I also used the song Somewhere Over the Rainbow by IZ (I love this version).

Better than Forever Young by Joan Baez?

    Also Turn around
    and I hope you dance
and What a Wonderful World, I prefer Louis but IZ does this one in a combo with Somewhere over the Rainbow.

I believe you're thinking about the theme from Growing Pains.
