Just curious to know what everyone's schedule looks like. I was issued rosters on Friday. School starts on August 25 for students, August 18th for teachers. Here's mine: 1st period - English 7 (27 students) 2nd period - English 7 (26 students) 3rd period - English 7 (25 students) 4th period - English 7 (27 students) 5th period - Planning 6th period - Planning Just one prep and both planning periods together at the end of the day! I'm excited for this school year! What does your schedule look like?
1st Period--Environmental Science (5 students) 2nd Period--Planning 3rd Period--Chem 1 (20 students) 4th Period--Chem 1 (16 students) 5th Period--Chem 1 (27 students) Lunch 6th Period--Forensic Science (8 students) 7th Period--Chem 2 Dual Enrollment (12 students) Teachers go back Aug 5th and students come back Aug 8th.
We got our tentative schedules at the end of last year. I am halfway expecting some changes before the year begins and/or possibly after the year begins. We typically get two prep periods, although one of them is earmarked for professional development (which generally happens once or twice per week, tops).
I know that I have two classes of 6th grade math in the morning, then team planning, personal planning, lunch, and two more 6th grade math classes in the afternoon. I haven't received the actual times though.
I have: 1st Hour - Speech II (20 students) 2nd Hour - Planning 3rd Hour - English I (33 students) 4th Hour - Speech I (29 students) 5th Hour - Speech I (31 students) 6th Hour - English I (30 students) 7th Hour - Speech I (23 students) I'm very jealous of people who get two planning periods, especially if you are on a six period schedule. Also, those of you with such small class sizes. That's so much planning time, and so few students!
I got my schedule the day my new P offered me the job, which was mid-June. She only did one change after I agreed to take on a new class. Fall schedule: 2 classes of AFM and yearbook. Spring schedule: 2 classes of AFM and 1 Math 1. If I was at my old school I wouldn't have my Fall class schedule until August 18th and it would probably change before the students started August 25th. Spring schedule is non-existent until after winter break.
1st - Math 8 2nd - Math 8 3rd - Prep 4th - STEM elective 5th - Lunch 6th - Math 8 7th - Math 8 This is not official yet, but the only likely change is a switch of 3rd and 4th. No rosters yet. The Math 8s will all be around 36. STEM will probably be in the low 20s.
1st - Physics 2nd - planning 3rd - Biology 4th - Physics 5th - AP Physics 6th - Lunch 7th - Biology 8th - Duty (unknown right now) 9th - team planning Not bad, but personally would like at least one duplicate class back to back.
I couldn't do what you do. I teach a few more students than you over a school year, but I have 150% to 200% more planning time. I'd rather have the planning than smaller rosters.
I report to school September 3rd, kids come the 4th and I have not gotten my schedule yet. They said should have it about August 20th. My school switched to AB Block for this upcoming year....it will be interesting!
I haven't received mine yet. I'm a brand new teacher and school starts the 18th. Hoping to get my schedule soon so I know whether I'm teaching Honors or regular and what my duplicates are. I do know I teach five classes with one prep.
I just got my schedule last week. 1st - ELD 2nd - prep - huge deal, because teachers don't get prep at our school. 3rd, 4th, 5th: English 6th: Geography I teach at a court / community school and we never get a prep, not even a duty free lunch. Our days are short, 8:15-1:55, so our duty free lunch / prep technically starts at 2 pm. But this year my P said she'll give me and the Math teacher a prep because we really have to push Common Core, and she knows it takes more prep to do something new (although it's nothing new to me). She also said she can't guarantee that we'll keep our prep, because me not having students means the other teachers have to absorb them and will have larger class sizes for that period. We get new students continuously throughout the year, so when our numbers really go up she'll have to put students in our prep classes. I'm happy with it though, for however long it lasts. I'm also very happy that I have elective for 1st and 6th period. 1st period often has a large number of absences, and by 6th per. the students are done (tired, just came from lunch), so not having a core class is great. All my sections of English are the same, I don't remember if it's English 3 or not, it doesn't even matter, because I'll have 9-12 grade in each one, completely mixed up, unlike last year (we had 9-10 and 11-12). So I gotta say I'm very happy.
That Env. Sci class and the Forensic Sci class look super cool. Even more so that they only have a few students in them.
Had to check mine before posting. Numbers are subject to change. 1-AP (9) 2-Eng. 12 (9) 3-Eng. 10 (11) 4-prep Lunch 5-intervention 6-Eng. 10 (15?) 7-Eng. 10 (15?) 8-H. Eng. 10 (20) I don't recall the numbers for my 6 and 7 periods but I know 8 is my biggest.
We may get tentative schedules a week before school starts, but it wouldn't be unusual for it to change the day before school starts. We don't get rosters until the day before school starts and won't know for sure if we have inclusion or esl clusters until then.

I like having small classes. The 5 students in environmental science are very low level and have to have their 4th science to graduate. None will probably go to college but the subject is interesting to them and I work on vocabulary and writing skills. Forensic Science is a new elective and most students are not sure what to expect but I expect the numbers to pick up. I teach in a very small school (I teach all the juniors in 3rd, 4th, and 5th periods) so class sizes are generally small and I like that even though it gives me more preps.

I'm teaching biology for the first time. I'm only teaching one section and there is a strong team, so I'm not worried about planning. I do have a lot to learn though since bio is not my subject. I'll be doing a lot of reading before each unit. I'll also have 9th graders for the first time in 4 years. Eek! I'm so used to seniors.
I don't even know what classes I'll be teaching yet. School starts in a couple of weeks and it's still "up in the air."
It just feels like I am constantly changing equipment around for demonstrations and labs. I try and not have biology and physics labs on the same days, but sometimes it just happens that they coincide.
4 sections of Government/Civics. 1 section of US History. I'm excited as last year I did US/World and I did not enjoy the world history classes all that much. When the school offered to pay for me to take the government test so I could teach it, I jumped at the opportunity. School here gets going on the 8th for preplanning and kids start 15th. I'm not sure why I'm getting anxious. This will be my second year and I don't remember being this anxious last year. I had a great year last year, I"m sure once the first bell rings and the kids are looking at me everything will click. Going to all these meetings and pre-planning makes me more nervous than teaching.
Interesting about the Env. Science class being a low level class. I wish our schools did that more often, providing smaller class sizes for the students who really need it.
