One that hasn't been mentioned yet that I see frequently is Corey for a boy. I had two my first year of teaching and again I have two this year. Corey is also my husband's name! :woot:

I see a lot of Kaylee, Kylie, Kayla and the Katelyns - spelled differently. Alex is also popular for the boys.

Last year, I had two Jonathans. I had one Samantha.

Now, I have one Jonathan and two Samanthas as well as two Ryans. :toofunny: Oh, and in addition to Jonathan in homeroom, I have a Jonathan in math. Then one of last year's Jonathans is on the newspaper staff with homeroom Jonathan. And in addition to Tyler in homeroom, I have a Tyler in reading, and they're both in advanced reading with me. But don't worry- I've had two Tylers in one room before- during internship!!!

Did that just make any sense at all???

    AAAAAAAAAAAA... the horror!!!!

In previous years I have had 2 each of :

    Brandon
    Shannon (girl)
    Danielle
    Zac
    Tanika

Mulitples of a name within the school - and oddly, these ones are all names you want to avoid because the students are behaviour problems (with very few exceptions):

    Brandon
    Jack
    Dylan

In my class of 12, I was going to have 2 Hannahs and 2 Mayas but one of the Hannahs was put into another class.

I was talking to one of the Mayas and she even mentioned how it would be cool to have the other Hannah in the class... I thought, "If you only knew!"

One year I had 7 kids named Jesus in my 7th period. I asked them if they had any nicknames, and they ALL said Chuy. At least I was surrounded by Jesus (ha ha bad joke). Two of them were Jesus Mendoza also! That was rough. I was ready to call them their ID number.

Every year I have over 20 Juans. Several Juan Gonzalez or Juan Rodriguez. I live right on the Mexican border, so those and Garcia, Martinez, and Garza. We have three teachers named Maria Martinez. the names are passed in the families. I am the only one with my name in the whole town, but my name would be rather common up north.

Isn't it funny how behavior issues seem to follow some names? I've never taught a Christopher that was "easy," and my sister named her son Christopher. My mom was a teacher for 20+ years, and warned my sister about that name while she was pregnant...but my sister went ahead and named him that anyway, and boy was he a handful! He is now 23 and STILL is a handful, as a matter of fact!

    Common Names

Last year when I subbed and did my practicum, there were lots of girl names that began with A and K and lots of boy names that began with J. Brittany, Ashley, and Josh are always popular. My daughter was in 5th grade and there were three Sarahs, one of which was in her class and all three were in the same class the year before. I am Kim and at the school where I'm ST, there are four other teachers named Kim, but all in different grades--K, 1st, 3rd, and 4th. There used to be two Mrs. Morrises and there's a Miss Morrison. Plus there's a Mrs. Howell, Nowell, and Crowell there too.

My son's middle name is Christopher and he's not so difficult, lol, but on the other hand, my cousin who went by Chris was not so easy to deal with.

Mrs C, isn't that strange how different parts of our country seem to have different popular names? I teach in a *tiny* school (only 180 kids), and we have 6 Laurens in the Junior class!

Last year on our staff we had 4 Nancys and 4 Kathys.

When I was in the 7th grade, we had 4 Debbies and 4 Johns. I was always the only Holly.

Until I went to college and my roommates name was Hollie. We were both dating boys named Kevin. Both Kevins lived in the same dorm. Both had similar physical characteristics--short brown hair, short, stock build. Hollie's birthday was on the 2nd of the month. Mine was on the 20th of the same month. She broke up with Kevin and started dating Rick. His birthday was the same as mine. I broke up with Kevin and started dating Fred. His birthday was the same as Hollie's. Oh, and Rick's real name was FREDRICK!!!!!

I'm a Kim, too, and my last name starts with D. We have another Kim D. on staff, and another one that left after last year. To make it worse, my name and one of the other one's names rhyme.

There are a whole lot of Kim's who are now in their early 30's!!

Every year I seem to have duplicate names. Last year I had 3 boys named Jacob and 2 girls named Katie. This year I have three girls named Abby (one girl spells it with an ey rather than y at the end), two Joshua's, and two girls named Kayla (those are spelled differently).

I went to school with 2 Michelle S. They were cousins. Their Dads both liked the name Michelle, so they both named their daughter Michelle, they were only a couple of months apart.

Luckily they had some different interests & when you weren't for sure they were identified by hair color. One was a blonde, the other a brunette.
