I just checked the weekly ad for Office Depot online. They have 10 cent rulers and 50 cent binders. I know where I'll be later today. Happy school shopping teacher friends!
Target has a 96 pk of construction paper for $1. They also have 2-pk pink erases for 20 cents and handheld pencil sharpeners for 20 cents. (There are no limits at Target) Stapes has Sharpie highlighter 5pks for 50 cents. (Limit 4) Kroger has 10 pk papermate pens 3/$1. (no limit. Can price match at Walmart if you have the ad)
I wish I would have checked earlier today before going to Target. I saw the 20 cent pencil sharpeners but didn't see the construction paper. My local Office Depot was a joke. The prices were too high and school supplies were scattered all through the store. I ended up not buying anything from there.
Pink: It took me three tries to get the construction paper. They always put a lot out, but it gets cleaned out early it seems. Finally, I went right when they opened today and bought 10 packs and went on my merry way! Third time's the charm I guess! I haven't checked out Office Depot yet. But I do need rulers. Do you know if there is a limit on them? I need 30! I hate when stuff is everywhere in the store all scattered like a scavenger hunt. Our local Staples does that, which is annoying. However, most of the time if I ask an employee just sitting around or walking around, they will tell me where something is in the store. Although I did have one tell me I'd have to look around in the front of the store. To which I said "I did! That's why I'm asking now." Does anyone know where I can get a really cheap easel (the kind with a dry erase board and such on it), or a cheap carpet area rug?
My Staples does that too and it's so annoying! My local Walmart had 5x7 feet rugs on sale for $21. They only had black, tan, gray, and an olive green I think. I got a gray one.
Ikea has big cheap rugs. I got a 4x4 one for my classroom library, but they have some that are much bigger.
Do you have a Big Lots by you? I think they have cheap rugs. I think now is the time to get them with all that college stuff out. I love looking at all that stuff to get ideas.
Oh yes, I forgot to mention the ruler limit at Office Depot. Your limited to 3...3?! Come on now they could have at least said 5!
I must be weird but I just cannot seem to get into purchasing rulers, paper, pencils, etc for my classroom. I may get some things but I really feel that parents should supply their child with the basics.
I'm with you. I just bought 150 folders for high school students I believe a folder is something that can be required for class without problem but bc I'm a first year teacher and the others in my department do it for their students... I did it grudgingly Next year students prob wont be as lucky if they have me as a teacher :lol:
I guess I believe that essentially, I wish this were the case. However, I don't mind buying the supplies at all, because I know there are always going to be parents who can't afford even the basics, or who don't care enough about their children's education to even bother going and getting the supplies, and who work more than one job and simply don't have the time to worry about it. Yeah, we could strong arm them and say that child has to do without unless the parents get the supplies, but I'd rather just have the supplies available for them. No need to alienate a child because their parents can't/won't get supplies for them. Haha- I'll try not to rant too long. No offense--I guess I just don't really agree with that complaint to begin with. In today's world, I see buying supplies as part of being a teacher! But to each his/her own right? Then again, I am a big couponer, so this is really only an extension of that for me. It intrigues me to find the best deals. Plus, I love the feeling that I have everything I might need for my students to be successful in my class from day one! Less for me to stress about really!
