I'm a special ed inst. asst. and i'm considering going back and getting my credential in spec. ed. Having had a child go through the process since 3rd grade as well as working in the field has given me an "inside look" and also given me the perspective of what parents at my school are going through. My child's needs are not severe -- she has mild asperger's/add -- but there have been challenges. I think I am a better "paraeducator" because I can relate!!! I am lucky to be in a supportive marriage, but I don't have family nearby, which would have been nice when we needed a "break." I hope you are coping okay -- it sound like maybe things are a little rough for you right now....Just try and remember we are given challenges because we can handle them and good will come from these challenges if we hang in there. You are probably doing a great service to the kids and parents you work with and you also have the skills to be an awesome parent to your own child because of what you do.
