So today we're sitting in inservice and the 323rd thing admin tells us to do is submit a copy of our classroom management plans by tomorrow. I was wondering if any of you had one you could share. I've got my classroom RULES. I'm just having a hard time coming up with suitable consequences for mod/severe non-verbal students. Last year my students were much higher and I used the school-wide discipline plan. That's not going to work too well with the group I'm getting this year.

Lol like what happens when you do something? I'd submit the CPI handbook, lol.

Tell me what needs to be in them and I might have something for you.

I had a time out chair last year. Didn't go over too well for the one student that really needed it. It's so hard for our students just to make a list because every student is going to react so differently. What matters to one might not matter to the other. So loss of priv is almost pointless.

I think I'm just going to not turn one in. They usually overlook the Life Skills class anyway. It's a gen ed world out there.

Perhaps I would turn in a paper that said this:

    Teacher: Mrs. Zoomzoomzoom
    Classroom: (room 422)
    School Year: 2010-2011

    Classroom Management Plan

Please see attached Behavior Intervention Plans and Individualized Education Plans which detail the individualized strategies that are utilized with each student in the class.

I think mine last year was just

    Positives:
    *verbal praise
    *preferred item or activity
    *stickers
    *happy notes home

    Negatives:
*verbal or visual reminders or redirection
    *natural consequences
    *loss of item
*time away from group or activity (I didn't want to call it tim-out)
    *notes home when warrented

That follows our school-wide behavior plan (sort-of) and was good enough for my admin. I also think I said something about rewards and consequences being tailored to the needs of specific children.

I'd be screwed being asked for that as well. I don't have one, each kid is so unique and really doesn't understand a traditional consequence. I had a student get written up on the bus last year for escaping from her bus harness and running to the back door of the bus and try to open it. What was I supposed to do with that??? I told her parents what happened, but that is really all I could do. She would have had no idea what the consequence is for, actions like that are part of her disability and very impulsive nature, hence wearing a harness on the bus to begin with. Uggh!

I went to the dean and he laughed and told me he would take care of it! It went into the circular file! Who writes up a student with severe disabilities up?? Crazy bus driver!
