    Hello,
I would like to teach mathematics, I would like to start with young kids and then if I can, move to high school kids.
I went to school in another country so I am not sure about it.
What are the ages for middle school?
Is it true that I need to take test 0014 (elementary education) before i get certify for middle school math? When I called my local dept of ED I was advised that since I didn't go to a school for teaching that was the way to do it.
I went to a regular 4 years university for computer science and math and now i would like to change carreer.
    Please advise!!!
Also, what books do you recommend for studying for this subject? can I take this test before elementary educt?

Multiple posts aren't a good idea, Valeriana: they won't get you more answers.

I'm not in New Jersey and can't speak to the state requirements for math teachers. In general, a teacher in elementary grades teaches in a self-contained classroom and must be licensed to teach all the subjects that come up in that classroom. And I don't know whether New Jersey allows elementary-level specialist math teachers.

Middle school generally comprises grades 6 through 8, though fifth grade or ninth grade may be included. Middle school is generally departmentalized - an individual teacher specializes in English or history or PE or math or... Middle school might be a good place for you to start. Check the state department of education Web site for licensing requirements for teachers.

You might also do well to pay a visit to the nearest university that has a teacher-training program and explain that what you really want to do is teach math. I would guess that your chances of being hired to teach math - in middle school or high school - are better than are your chances of being hired to teach elementary school.
