This is a huge issue at our school. We have so many kids with diagnoses of anxiety/depression who aren't getting enough help. I hear a lot of resistance to treatment options, even just therapy, if the school is even able to offer it. Stigma is still a huge issue.

Thanks for this! My school board has set Mental Health as one of the board priorities. Even at the elementary level there needs to be a much greater awareness and understanding so that we can meet the needs of our students.

I posted this on my own FB page. We have no guidance counselors at my school, and I'm lobbying like crazy for the school to bring in a social worker on a more regular basis. We just are too finely stretched to do it all.

I think it is a huge issue everywhere. So huge that school boards don't know how to take it into consideration. It is incredibly far-reaching. Certainly, the current set-up is not even slightly equipped to address it. School psychologists can't even find time to test kids! And, frankly, I consider IEPs pretty much a joke today.
