Memorial Tree in Ellen's memory - see update by Kate on p2

Hey everyone I just joined today. I am so sorry to hear about Ellen. She sounded liked she was a very bright and promising young lady.

 

Hi everyone...

Just wanted to check in and let you know we just started recieving notifications of donations made to camp in Ellen's memory. We wanted to thank anyone who donated - thus far, they have received over $2000 in Ellen's memory, and are planning a fundraising walk in the fall which will be held in her honor. So thanks to anyone who has donated.

We also recieved the notification of the tree donation- here is what was sent to us:

Dear Family,

A-Z Teacher Stuff Forum dedicated a gift for humanity to honor the memory of your child, Ellen B. Aquino.

Your friends understand that they may never suffer the grief of losing a child, and words of condolence however expressed can never fulfill you enough to dissipate your grief, but they want you to know that they mourn your loss.

We have arranged for the unmarked planting of a young memorial tree in honor of Ellen at an environmental restoration project on public lands in the State of New York, for all to see and enjoy. Trees provide oxygen, cleanse ground water, stabilize the soil, insure future medicines, beautify our surroundings, offer shade, reduce pollution and give wildlife refuge from the elements for decades to come.

May the planting of this tree serve as a living memorial and bring peace and comfort to you.

The enclosed Certificate of Planting is your official representation of Ellen's tree.

The certificate enclosed stated: "This is to certify that a tree has been planted in memory of Ellen B. Aquino in a public environmental restoration project in the state of New York, USA. The planting of this tree is a significant statement of the hope and expectation for the recovery of Earth's natural resources and the Spirit of togetherness for all Mankind.

Again, I just wanted to thank everyone for all their support and continued good thoughts. My parents and I have been trying to start living normal lives again, as much as possible, but it's going to be a really long process...

Thank you so much for doing this for Ellen. She has been a total support for me trying to get my classroom organized. She will be missed very much. She was an exemplary special education teacher and she was totally dedicated to our students.
