Many of us have belonged to this forum for well over a decade. There are a few members I’ve been thinking about who haven’t posted in years! Anyone keep in touch with or know what happened to: Aliceacc JaimeMarie Giraffe326 CutNGlue peachyness Peregrin & JustMe are doing fine as were friends on social media. For me, this forum has been a sounding board, a support group (I clearly remember typing posts in tears about 10 years ago when I received a pink slip during teacher layoffs here in CA), and the people I’ve “met” have become professionals who I truly and wholeheartedly admire. Okay, enough gushing: where are our missing colleagues?
I'm in touch with Jaime, CutNGlue, and peachyness on social media; all are doing fine. It's possible I'm in touch with Giraffe326 as well but don't know it because the alias isn't the same.
Aliceacc was a wealth of information and her insight is missed. She ‘bowed out’ a while ago- she had youngish kids at the time and grew weary of some conflicts here. I miss her.
Aliceacc's advice led to me landing my first full-time job. I always found her to be very kind and supportive, as well as extremely knowledgable. I miss her very much.
If I'm remembering the right person, didn't Giraffe leave teaching? I think she's checked in here once or twice since then.
Yes, I remember her moving to Michigan, having a bad experience in a charter school, and then leaving teaching and going into something like insurance or mortgages.
It's funny, YoungTeacherGuy, because I hadn't realized how long I've been on this forum. I'm usually not an every day-er, but I read way more often than I post. Like you, I miss Alice. I have pm'd her, but it has never materialized into anything. I'm glad to hear so many familiar names are doing well. I wish they would return,
Alice offered so much sage advice and trolls started to pick at every syllable, even posting a false report of her death. I stayed active for a while after that, but grew weary of the negativity. I came back a couple weeks ago and felt like it was again a positive group. Then I posted something that I have some experience with and the criticism pours in. I’m not going to wade into a discussion about math content when I’m a K-6 certified 6th grade teacher. I wish others had similar hesitation.
Alice sounds like an awesome person and it’s a shame that I didn’t get to know her better. What kind of sicko would fake her death?!
I'm so glad you have given to us a second chance to be professionals sharing information. I think some of the criticism may stem from the general attitudes of society. What I mean is that in our current polite society, it is challenging to hold a different viewpoint and express it without having a response that is negative, critical and, worst of all, personally vicious. We can all blame whomever we wish for the current state of affairs, but it's been going on for quite a while, and I feel we only have ourselves to blame. If we don't stop perpetuating that type of reaction in a forum designed to be a blessing and uplift, we can never hope to raise up children who will be independent thinkers able to listen, and possibly understand, another's viewpoint. Alice was awesome. I hope someone who knows her personally can reach out and tell her how well we regarded her. I look forward to chatting with you Mary and I hope you will always know that whether we agree or disagree, I have regard and respect for my colleagues here.
It's funny, I kind of dropped out (not even sure why. I liked it here. I guess I got distracted and never came back? Also, not that much action in my niche) but I decided to check in, was surprised to see a number of familiar names, and then stumbled on this thread! I used to post a bunch.
I'm a special ed independent contractor, working with individual students or small groups within the context of general ed classrooms. This forum is mostly classroom teachers. It's a wealth of interesting interaction, but not quite relevant enough to spend too much time on. I wish I could find such a robust community of service providers like me.
Yes, I feel like there is so much to accomplish there, and I wish I had more people to brainstorm with like classroom teachers do! I feel like I'm constantly trying to reinvent the wheel, and wondering if other people are doing the same thing better, and if so where to find them...
You never know if throwing out a strategy that you do use here might trigger something great for the other teachers, and in turn, maybe someone would have a working idea that you could augment successfully.
Aliceacc is an active member of a Disney forum I belong to. She seems to be doing well based on her posts.
