I'm a first grade teacher and I have a lot of girls in my class this year. I feel like I'm a teacher in the movie "Mean Girls." Many of my girls are just being "cruel" to each other...calling each other names, excluding one another from activities, tattling on each other, aggravating one another, being unkind. I've tried several things...I have a warm fuzzy jar that we add pom poms to when we are kind, having restorative conversations, having the girls eat lunch with me to learn how to have kind conversations, separating them from one another, etc. Nothing seems to be working. Any ideas? I have a lot of upset girls and even the boys are affected by their cruelness. I'm thinking I could have a class meeting with just the girls?

Have you read Queen Bees and Wannabes? It's the book on which Tina Fey based her script for Mean Girls. There is a lot of practical information in there. I also recommend getting your hands on Odd Girl Out for further reading.
