Testing to see if it is a regional thing. I grew up in CA and we always had plain old Best Foods mayo. Can hardly gag down Miracle Whip. Anyone else? How would I turn this into a poll??
Grew up on miracle whip - two southern parents - Texan and North Carolinan. Married a Califorian and now only mayo Now when I eat a banana sandwich, I use mayo but have to sprinkle it with sugar
I grew up in Missouri-and I only like mayo. The brand doesn't really matter. But I can't stand Miracle Whip at all-I can't force myself to eat it. But my husband, who also grew up in Missouri, loves Miracle Whip.
I grew up on miracle whip and didn't actually learn that it wasn't mayo until I was an adult. I guess I should have read the bottle. I don't eat mayo or mircle whip.
You can get fat on either one....... sooooooo as you spread mayo or Miracle Whip on whatever..... just think how many miles you need to walk in order to NOT GAIN WEIGHT........ And BTW, the Major prefers mayo...... So far this week I've walked 17 miles and been to the gym every day...... sooooooo bring on the MAYO.....
Am I the only one that did a double take at this?? I've never heard of mayo and bananas together. Now that must be a regional thing! :haha: As far as mayo or miracle whip, I like both, it depends on my mood.
Only mayo, Kraft brand and I barely put any really - I spread it on and scrape the knife across to leave the smallest layer possible
Second-generation Southern Californian: raised on Miracle Whip, but if I have to buy something of the kind I buy mayo. Though mostly I use salad dressing: Fresh & Easy's Caesar vinaigrette is seriously yummy on sandwiches.
But a staple of my childhood summers was the tomato sandwich: white bread, Miracle Whip, salt, and a slab of the ripest beefsteak tomato that you could slice (or very ripe cherry tomatoes, in a pinch).
Grew up with Miracle Whip. As children, we had chip buttees (bread spread with butter and french fries, an English delight) but I had to have mine with miracle whip and not butter. I do use mayo for chicken salad.
Substitute mayo for Miracle Whip & you have summers at my grandma's! I use Helmen's - but it only goes in my tuna these days.
Duke's Mayo!!!! Fresh tomato and mayo sandwich with salt and pepper! Half pears with a dollop of mayo in the center sprinkled with cheese! Yummmmmm!
Both--sandwiches I love Miracle Whip. Making salads (potato, macaroni and even tuna only Helmann's mayo) Using Suddenly Salad parmasean (i believe its that one) I use miracle whip bc it gives it a nice kick
Very interesting! Anyone know why it is Best Foods in the West and Hellman's in the Mid West? What is it called on the East Coast or SouthWest?? (Questions keeping me up at night.)
Hellmann's and Best Foods are the same brand - marketed regionally. Hellmann's is sold East of the Rockies only; Best Foods west of the Rockies. I hate both. Grew up with miracle whip (always wondered at the "salad dressing" label), switched to mayo as an adult, and now use mustard.
DH LOVES Miracle Whip in a big way- he'll eat it just on bread...one of the reasons I don't buy it! I like it, but I'm pretty much a Hellmans (Best Foods) girl...I tend not to use mayo very often though...
DH bought Miracle Whip which I've choked down because I don't want to waste it, but I'm definitely a Hellman's girl! I really only ever use mayo on turkey sandwiches or in macaroni salad, though, but I realized I definitely prefer the real stuff to the Miracle Whip!
