Maybe the most unusual thing I have seen on Facebook

Today, I saw something that takes the cake for unusual Facebook nonsense. Someone I know has a Facebook page for her one year old. She makes posts describing her day and uploads pictures of her hanging out with other babies. On a couple of statuses the mother logged in to her actual account to post to a reply to herself as the baby. On top of all of this, she doesn't even have any privacy settings on the page so all of the details of this child's life are available to the world.

That's pretty odd, right? I can't just be a mean jerk for thinking this is stupid, right? Has anyone else ever seen something like this?

    I don't think you're a mean jerk.

I do, however, question the mom's allowing her baby's Facebook page to be seen by ANYBODY on the Internet.

That is a little bit odd. To each his (or her) own I guess...

Dogs and babies just have so much to share with the world. This whole thing made me question if this is more common than I thought, and I ended up on an article about Facebook purging 83 million accounts of fake people, babies, pets, etc. I guess some people just get a little too bored for comfort.

All my dogs would do is message everyone asking for cheese and table scraps.

One of my friends started a FB page for her son the day he was born. I guess it is like an online baby book.

I have a FB friend who made a profile for his cat. His cat acts like a real person, posts youtube videos about cats, makes posts, replies to his posts, etc. This guy is listed as the cat's grandpa.

Often the cat would reply on the guy's post, then he would reply and then they would have a conversation, debate, etc.
The cat actually has a grumpy, wicked cat-like disposition, it's kinda cute, but at the same time too weird.

I'd be most concerned about the privacy settings...otherwise, I agree that the "baby's" fb page is probably a proud parent, perhaps sharing with interested friends and family.

My in-laws cat has a Facebook page. I think my sister-in-law made it. I blocked him, because there was no way I was going to add a cat to my Facebook.

How is the heck does anyone have time to keep up with more than 1 Facebook page??? And have conversations with...yourself?

Yeah, a friend has one for her baby and will tag her in comments and photos.

I also follow one for a cute little dog Baxley.

Yeah, it is odd, but I like the dog one!

:yeahthat: Plus, I wouldn't like if I were one of the OTHER parents to know that my child's picture is tagged in someone else's account. I trust MY circle of friends and family to see pics of my child, but how do I know if I can trust someone elses' friends and family not to do something nefarious with the picture?

I also can't help but wonder who has the time to constantly snap and upload pics, then tag and write captions, respond to comments as a baby, etc:dizzy:

I have a friend who takes pictures of EVERYTHING while we're out and will post like 50 - 70 pictures from a simple outing for coffee, the mall or even hanging out at the apartment baking cookies.

I tried it once because I wanted to have a lot of FB pics and I found it annoying and distracting. I'd prefer to take pics when I feel like it, not because I just want to update everyone on my life. :2cents:

I love this! It lets me be in lots of pictures without having to take any. :D Good for memories! I'm always trying to convince BF to take more pictures of the things we do but he's just as lazy as I am.

Haha my husband made Facebooks for our cats a couple years ago. It was really more a joke than anything else. He used to make the cats comment to things I said occasionally. That lasted like a week. They still exist, but he doesn't update them or use them anymore. It was just something silly that our friends laughed at.

I don't understand having a FB for a baby....that's weirder than having FBs for pets, IMO. lol. At least the pet one is (hopefully) a half joke, but I wouldn't see the baby one the same way. And I wouldn't want all those pictures to be public!!!

    Haha, it's not you :)
I know this guy personally, lol. BTW this cat get get's invited to all these huge parties, and I think she goes and checks in as well. Even the guy's friends comment on his posts, which like I said, are always grumpy, usually picking on the guy. I think the cat is his alter ego, and he's working some issues out through all this.

The amount and level of naive parents scares me. My niece's kinder teacher had a facebook account for parents to see classroom happenings. That would be okay if it was not set to allow all "friends of friends" to see the photos and posts. That's a lot of people! I just did not approve. I was once shocked to learn someone I knew was arrested with multiple counts of kiddie porn on his computer. If Facebook were popular back then he would have been a Facebook friend and seen my Niece and all her classmates! Sick.Similarly, why do parents in this day and age let their little girls walk around in their leotards after gymnastics or dance class? If you need to run an errand put your little girl in sweat pants. There are too many sickos o there.
As for posting from the babies point of view, strange but forgivable.

PH, I feel the same way about the nakey newborn pics that everyone has to have nowadays. I know they are supposed to be cute, but there are some real sickos out there. I really really dislike pics where a newborn's butt is showing.

My cats have gotten friend requests from people who never sent me a request. People I actually knew.
