How do you assess the math level of students each year?? I would like to have a nice-simple way to assess what level students are at in math. At the beginning of the year I do a reading assessment, like DRA or something similar, and I would like to have something similar for math. With the reading assessments I know exactly what grade level my students are at. I feel like with Math I always end up giving them some random problems to see where they are at but it doesnt give me a concise system to work with. Any suggestions, ideas?? :thanks:

One option: Take some sample problems from your state assessment test (your grade and previous grade) and create your own. This should provide you with what areas of your curriculum you will need to look at for your students and to see if they are able to complete items from last year and what they may know for this year. This is what I am "thinking" about doing...

I ,too, am looking for a math assessment, like the IRI for reading.
