Does anyone use math journals with your class? What type of "prompts" do you give them? Can you tell it really helps with comprehension? Just wondering!

I don't know the author but my favorite math book for journal prompts and homework is Read It, Draw It, Solve It. It will give a word problem that can be solved multiple ways and the kids have to read it, highlight key words, draw a picture of it, and describe what they did in words.

No, I haven't... I keep a folder, though, and this year, we may incorporate some journal entries. I tried a few last year, and some did great... and some did not so great. It took a LOT of modeling. It depends on the kids you have. Most of my math kids are LD in writing, so they need a lot of help when it comes to working on an entry. They DO need it for next year, though, because in 5th they'll have open response questions on FCAT Math.
