    Hi,

I will be finishing my graduate post-bacc teacher licensure program in Elementary Education in December of next year I will also be picking up K-12 English and Social Studies certifications.

Because I will not be staying in the country long enough to complete my masters degree, I am considering online options. Two that interest me are the American College of Education's ME.d in Curriculum and Instruction degree and Morningside College's MAT program.

Is there a substantial different between an MAT and ME.d degree? Is one more respected than the other? The classes themselves don't really look that different.

I'd appreciate any and all insights.

Personally, I don't know anyone with a MAT.

In order to be an administrator in my district, one must have a M.Ed or higher.

Interesting. Do you mean an M.Ed in admin or do you have administrators in your district who have M.Ed's in lets say Curriculum and Instruction?

In my district, an administrator can have a M.Ed in pretty much anything education-related: Educational Leadership, Curriculum & Instruction, Educational Technology--just to name a few examples.

However, in order for an educator to be an administrator in the State of California, one must possess a California Administrative Services Credential. My district takes it a step further by requiring a M.Ed, too.

The bottom line is that I don't know anyone with a MAT. Maybe someone here has one, though, and can chime in.

MATs don't seem to be as highly regarded as a M Ed or MS Ed. I don't know of anyone holding a MAT with whom I work.

Great information. This is exactly the sort of policy I thought might be in place. Thanks so much for sharing.

I see. Thanks very much for sharing! I think I will pursue the ME.d in Curriculum and Instruction from what you all are sharing with me.

I only know of one person with a MAT. She was my cooperating teacher during my student teaching. There were a lot of opportunities for her, but I think it is because she has her national board certification.

I would go the MEd rather than the MAT.

You can only do the med if you already have a teaching license.

Good point! I will be finishing up with my teaching license around this time next year, so I'm just doing some preliminary research :)
