Hi everyone, I am having a dilemma, so any advice or experiences would be greatly appreciated! I currently live on Long Island, NY and I am in my first year of teaching. I work for a preschool and I am going to school for my master's degree in TESOL. Sooner than later, I would like to get a job in a district, as I have always wanted to teach elementary school. However, I know how tough Long Island can be for teachers, so I am very grateful to have my preschool position... My dilemma is, my family is pressuring me saying that I should take less classes and prolong receiving my master's degree, while I am applying to districts, because districts are less likely to higher someone with their master's degree because of the difference in pay. This is really discouraging because in NYS you need your master's within a certain amount of time, and I honestly just want to get the schooling done and over-with. Has anyone been in this situation? Do you find it easier to get hired with a bachelor's or harder because you had your master's? Thank you in advance!
