Today instead of buying those expensive hand pointers to use in the classroom, I made my own for only about $1. I think it turned out really cute.:p I just bought a wood dowel and painted it white and then hot glued one of those pre painted wood shapes from Walmart, Michaels or Craft Warehouse onto the end. I used a dragonfly. :)

I took one of those flyswatters that looks like a hand and cut 4 fingers off leaving the pointer finger and thumb. Looks like it is pointing. :)

I've also made one by stuffing a glove and hot-gluing everything but the pointer finger down.

I like using different things for pointers. Regular flyswatters work - or for framing words, cut a rectangle out of the middle.

I've gotten wands (with sequined stars on the end) in clearance Halloween merchandise.

Those are great ideas. I recently started ST in a K classroom and see the value in the "pointer" :) I'll have to start getting crafty when I get my own class!

Craft stores (such as Michaels if you have one in your area) have flat wooden shapes. I'll bet you can find both of those! Actually, I know they have bears, because I used wooden bears for my bathroom passes.

The dollar tree has fly swatters that has a flower on it and large and mini princess wands. I use those for pointers.

Does anyone know where I can get kids gloves this time of year? For pointers? I can't find any anywhere!

I got gardening gloves at Walmart or someplace like that. Easier to find this time of year! Although you might find a winter glove at a thrift shop. One of my pointers is a child's gardening glove. But the one I use most often is an adult-sized knit glove.

I was lucky and bought a lot of the decorated fly swatters from the Dollar Store in the Spring.

I am also gong to try making my own hand pointers. Usually, I just buy a dowel and stick a cute shaped eraser on the end.

You could also buy from the dollar stores those really big pencials. Those would work well as a pointer! Or buy one of those lazors to use as a pointer!

I made 2 pointers last year- both from $1 store gloves. One I tie-dyed and stuffed with batting, sewed down fingers into the 'rock on' sign, put on dowel, tied with a ribbon, hot glue glove so it stays on. The other glove I stuffed, sewed down fingers in 'pointing' position, tied gold ribbon, hot glue onto dowel. They're great, my kids love them. :woot:

Rock on is pointer and pinkie finger up- every other finger down (thumb holding own middle and ring finger)

Oh...duh...I thought you meant the hand was holding a sign that said "rock on" and I was trying to figure out how that'd work as a pointer...sheesh, I feel
