do your students have to sit with their class, allowed to sit with other classes in same grade level or allowed to mix with other grade levels?

Im in a K-4 school. k eats in their own classrooms. 1-4 eat in multipurpose room. Classes stay together at assigned tables. Teachers are duty free at lunch; paras are assigned to each class.

One grade at a time is served. Must sit with homeroom. I understand this more in elementary, but I really don't like this for middle schools where classes travel as homeroom as is. I think it's good to allow them to make and visit other friends. When I was in middle school, we were allowed to sit where we chose.

There is usually only one grade in the lunchroom at a time, and all students must sit with their class. Classes are dismissed 2 at a time, with 5 minutes in-between dismissal times. I can't imagine dismissal if the kids were all spread out. We have around 530 kids in our school, and only one small lunchroom, so we're on a tight schedule. Lunches start at 10:30 and end at 1:30.

Wow...if there was only one grade level at a time in our lunchroom, lunch would never end...we have about 120 kids per grade level! 1-2 eat lunch and go to recess from 11:30-12:30. 3-4 eat and recess from 12:30-1:30.
Pigeon...I feel terrible for kids eating lunch at 10:30. is that when their teachers have lunch as well?

In middle, we had around 200 per grade level...they all fit. :)

They go to recess first. I think the first group actually starts recess at 10:20, and then they come in at 10:55 for lunch. The grade levels do overlap a bit in the lunchroom, but there really isn't room for 2 grades at a time. And we currently have 125 second-graders.

We had lunch (brunch) starting at 10:32 one year! Those kindergarten teachers would just wait until their conference period to eat.

We have one grade level go at a time to lunch too, and nobody gets to sit any where but with their own class because of our lunch order. If we were "free rangers", they'd never get done with eating because they're just all super social! And there's about 150+ for each grade level.

We only have two classes of each grade level and they can sit with anyone from either class in their grade level.

At my school, kinder has their own schedule. The rest of the school rotates what time they eat lunch by 15 minute blocks.

The students sit in their grade level and have to raise their hands before they are dismissed to recess.
