I am needing to purchase 1.5" binders but don't want to spend more than $2 a piece since I'm going to need about 20 of them. Other than E-bay does someone know where I can purchase some that cheap? They can be used so long as they are intact. Thank you.

If your area has a local craigslist put up an add...you may find people willing to give them away. Just put up an add that you are looking for them and have them contact you if they have any. You may find some who say "take them" or some who say they'll take a dollar or something for each one. Never know!

I've never used Craiglist --- I'll have to check it out! Thanks.

I know at college they give binders away if people don't pick-up their projects, they just take out all of the papers and put them out for free.

Though free is better, I like that discount website. Thanks!

We have a chain dollar store called King Dollar - if you have one around you they usually have them for $1. I would ask the high school if you could put a box out on locker clean out day for binders the kids don't want. They usually trash lots of them on the last day of school. You could also ask the 4th/5th grade teachers if they require the kids to have binders this year - the kids might throw theirs out at the end too.

They usually go on sale for cheap at back-to-school time.

Also try a thrift store. The stores around here often have them for 50 cents.

I would go to Staples and try to work out a deal with the manager. They have always been really great and generous with me. If they make friends with you, they know you will come back and spend more money there. Plus, use your teacher reward card and get major bucks back! I heart Staples.

Staples has a teachers card??? Oh man, so cool, yet so dangerous!!! :)

I loved the idea of asking to put out a box in a HS on last day. I think I'll call around today. Right now I don't need any, but I think I probably will.

Our last day of school was last Friday. As the students cleaned out their lockers on Friday, we had hall duty. I pulled a chair out into the hallway to supervise and before long I had: 5 binders, three brand new packages of hi-liters, several boxes of pencils, tape, 2 boxes of colored pencils, pens, etc. . . . They were all going to throw these things in the trash.

Ya, I remember Staples had those 1 cent sales last summer and I got a bunch of binders - I don't think they were 1 cent but they were definitely cheap! Unfortunately the sales (if they do them this year) probably won't be until July so if you need them soon, that's not much help.

I went to a thrift store the other day and they had an ENTIRE SHELF of binders! I stopped, gapped a while, and thought of you. Maybe a thrift store near you has one. They were used, but looked very nice.

You are all so wonderful for continuing to post suggestions.

Futurecateacher - I did go to COSCO this weekend & saw that they had them in a box. I don't recall the price but if it's that amount I will definitely keep it in mind.

Jem - I'll start looking at thrift stores in my area. Have to see where they are --- only seen one or two. I'm sure there are more.

MrsMikesell - yes I can wait till then. I'm actually purchasing them for students.

I'll also look into the other places such as Staples & discount office supply web site. Thank you much!!

Hey, hey! Staples has 1" Avery binders for $1.24 this week. They are in beautiful colors to boot.

Jem - not sure if the 1" will be big enough. They are going to have folders for each subject & what ya call the pencil/bag holder insert (?) as well as a spiral notebook(s). Team teacher showed me an example of one & it look like it had been through war. It's why I'm thinking that it should be 1.5" minimum.

That's actually good to hear. I ordered 1.5" from our office, and I was beginning to doubt myself, thinking they might be too large. Thanks for putting my mind at ease.

Office Max has buy two, get one free on all Avery binders, but I'm not sure how expensive they are to begin with.

I posted this on another thread about freebies but wanted to post on this one also - sorrry for the repeat

:woot: Whoot Whoot :woot: I just had delivered to my front door 5 bank boxes (which I get to keep) FULL of 3 ring binders!!!! FOR FREE!!!

Last Sunday at church I just happened to casually mention I was waiting for binders to go on sale at Wal-Mart so I could buy more for my class. One really, really nice guy said, "you need binders - how many? We throw away binders everyday. I bring you some on Monday" Hurray - some turned out to be 5 boxes full and they are the good ones.

So I would say to let people in the coporate world know what you are looking for. Maybe you will hit pay dirt

In '07, I had a friend's husband give me some...about 10 + , he worked for AT&T....some were blank and some not, but I took them of course.
So maybe, ask anyone or everyone, he said they just throw them out!

I am happy to report that I too was able to get a box of free binders!! It's about 8 or 10 of them. I'll pick them up tomorrow. I'll still need more but at least this is a start & the best part is that they were FREE! :)

Staples is having their big sale starting this Sunday and their binders are .25 ... I think they're only 1" binders, but for that price, you may want to pick some of those up.

The binders on sale at Staples have the floppy covers. They are not hard cover binders.
