Tomorrow is one of those days that a lot of teachers HATE, but that I get a kick out of.

We do an Afternoon Assembly period. That means classes are cut from our typical 38 minutes to 32. We go back to homeroom at about 2 pm.

Then we spend the remaining 45 minutes or so decorating the school for Christmas!

Each homeroom gets a pre-lit tree and unbreakable ornaments. And we have a door decorating contest. In addition, I'll be putting up border, a Creche, and a mural (we copied it from a Christmas coloring page, put it onto the projector, and colored it.)

I also printed up coloring pages of elves and Santa. Each of my kids will color one and they'll line the back of the room. Yes, I know they're in high school. But the coloring really is very calming, and it gives a job to the kids who aren't helping with the tree or the door.

Teachers without homerooms will put up the tree in the faculty room, and the one in the library.

As we're working, Christmas Carols will play over the computers.

It's hectic and loud and the kids are excited. But I LOVE it.

That sounds like so much fun! And the timing is perfect - who really wants to go back after Thanksgiving break? But now you all have something to look forward to.

That sounds awesome! My P. won't let us put up Christmas trees until after Christmas because it is technically Advent until then. We can put up a Jesse tree, but the kids aren't really into that.

That sounds like so much fun... I'm in a public school, so we have to tiptoe around the holidays, but I hang a few ornaments around my desk and use a Christmas mug for the month.

I'm in a public school also and I'm usually VERY careful about avoiding Christmas personally. However this year the student council is sponsoring a door decorating contest. I love the Peanuts gang so I thought of doing something related to their Christmas show.
Have fun Alice - sounds like a great day.

I'm hoping that we do a door decorating contest again this year--we used to, but haven't the past 2 years. I have a beautiful black and white poster that says PEACE and the students make white paper doves to surround it.

It is supposed to rain this afternoon so I think we may decorate our tree if we can't go outside for recess. It is a patriotic tree with red, white and blue Americana ornaments, apples and all the school related ornaments I have received over the years. :)

Definitely a "What Not to Wear" kind of a day:

    Black pumps.

    Black stockings.

    Black skirt.

    Black blouse.

    OK so far, right?????

OK, here's the moment you've been waiting for:

Red sweater. On the front is a Christmas tree composed of, from the top:
a star, a tree top, a sled, a snowman with 2 mittens and a scarf, 3 dancing reindeer, and a present as the base. There are also gold and white snowflakes on my sleeves, and tiny faux pearl accents-- just in case it needed more embellishment.

And, oh, yeah, there's a reindeer on my back shoulder.

No, I did NOT buy myself this sweater!!!

If I don't wear it on decorating day, when on EARTH would I wear it???

Oh no, Alice! Not a Christmas sweater! I never would have believed it...

    Have lots of fun today!

    Hope you had fun!

Your thread reminded me I need to go get my Christmas tree and decorations out of the storage loft--and find a new place for the tree, since I rearranged my room this summer! (However, I'll have to do it after school one day this week--putting up a tree and lights with 17 third graders would NOT be fun!). I'm off to ask if there is a theme yet for the door decorating contest...

:dizzy::wow: You might win one of those "ugly sweater" contests. :hugs:

I have a few turtlenecks with snowmen, snowflakes, etc. on them... but they're worn with a jacket or sweater :)

Kinda crazy, but it went well. (See the "my door" thread.)

It's hard keeping 35 freshmen all productively occupied. But we did-- the elf coloring pages were a stroke of genius!!! Anyone who wasn't busy with the tree or a door was coloring an elf for my back wall.

Glad to hear all went well. So, how many students commented on your sweater?

Oh, SEVERAL!!! And of course, I wasn't the only teacher in a Christmas sweater.

Today we're back to real clothes: a wedgewood blue pants suit and black T.

But I do have a Christmas pin!!! When we were kids, my dad used to get each of "his girls" a pin every Christmas, and I was smart enough to save mine. And Peter tries to supplement on my October birthday. I have quite a collection!!! I wear one every day from now through Christmas. (It simply wouldn't have been visible yesterday with that sweater :) )

Happy belated birthday, Alice! Mine's today.

I've got a nice little collection of Christmas pins; I'll start wearing them tomorrow. And I'll put out my few "politically correct" decorations.

In honor of you, Alice, I pulled out my favorite ugly sweater! It's not a Christmas sweater, but it IS ugly, and it is very warm.
