I think if you could get a job at a bookstore, try to do so. Bookstores are calm, quiet, & are never crowded, so it's kind of a relaxing job away from the stress of teaching. The job isn't hard or takes a lot of brain power, so again, it's a nice break from teaching. I can't think of any other kind of store that will be that calm.

What do you have in mind? I imagine you'd like to have something that's as far away from teaching kids or a hectic environment as possible.

Can you tutor? Teach summer school? I know one teacher who waits tables and the summer and makes more money than she does teaching.

There are many auto garage who want a part time manager during summers. I think you can apply for that.

Thanks, everyone! I will be looking for something not related with teaching. So far I was thinking Dollar General or home health but I love the other ideas as well. I am sure I will look into all of them!

I have worked retail during the summer and it's not bad. I would try and apply early since lots of college kids coming home for summer break will also be looking for jobs! I think working at a book store would be fabulous!

Thanks for the tip about applying early. Working a second job in the summer is new to me. I havent done it before, but I am tired of being broke all the time and thought working in the summer might help...

I also sold Avon for a while. I actually did it during the school year as well as the summer. It didn't take too much time since I filled and delivered orders over the weekends. I had a little extra money year round!

Our local bookstore is always packed, but I would love to work there!

I would think that some restaurants might need extra help for a few hours around lunch.

I'm a nanny for a 7th grader. Basically I'm a chauffeur :) he mostly hangs out with friends and I read. We play a lot of games too.

    I love it!
