I will be graduating in May, and I am trying to get a jump start on building my teacher resouce books. If you have used or have a resouce book that you think ANY and ALL teachers should have, please suggest some to me. With Christmas coming up soon, I will be asking for lots of things for my classroom! Thank you all for your help!

I would start looking at different classroom discipline / management books to see what styles fit you. The ones most often suggested here are Whole Brain Teaching and Love and Logic. Good luck and enjoy your senior year of college!

I'll tell you this from personal experience: here's the NUMBER ONE RESOURCE you should pick up, RIGHT NOW:

    1. GET INTO THE CLASSROOM!

Substitute, Intern, Volunteer, do whatever you need to do to get IN the classroom and learn there.

I promise you, that'll be the best resource you'll ever get.

(AFTER you get into the rhythm, then I'd suggest picking up some of the books that get mentioned in this thread.)

Here are 4 every teacher should read:

    1. The First Days of School by Henry Wong
    2. Tools for Teaching by Fred Jones
    3. The End of Molasses Classes by Ron Clark
    4. How to Talk so Kids Can Learn by Adele Faber & Elaine Mazlish

All books are easily found online and probably in book stores. All can be found $10 or less if you don't mind used copies.
