I visited the Little Giraffes website today and saw the closing notice on the front page Just FYI for all those who use this site often and will miss it once it is gone forever. Start your printers!
I'm so bummed out. I LOVE that site. The ideas and photos make it so easy to use. I will definitely miss it!
Thanks so much for the FYI! I use that site constantly and will print as much as I can! What a bummer!!
I wish that she could keep the website up just as it is without maintaining it. Is there any way to contact her to beg her to leave it as is???? It's such a great resource.
She moved to first grade. It costs $$ to pay for a domain name and web hosting. I pay $13.95 a month for hosting and an additional $30 a year for my domain name so it's not cheap. If she is no longer teaching kinder then I can see why she wouldn't want to pay for the site.
vanna - thanks so much for the "heads up". This was my all-time favorite website- I even took my newletter format from that master teacher. I'm glad to have the time to copy everything before it's gone.
I was going to try to save page as... I'm going to try it now and see how it works. I can't print at work because we are only allowed one ink cartridge a year and I'm sharing it with another teacher. ETA: Okay, I just saved some of her theme pages onto my computer and it looks exactly the same, no problems.
No! Oh No! Another one! This time I'm saving as much as I can! I didn't catch that Mrs. Pohlmeyer was closing her site and lost all that GREAT info! I'm not letting that happen again!
I think it's official now so I'll spill the beans. A to Z Teacher Stuff is the new owner of Little Giraffes so it will be online for years to come! When I started A to Z it was always my goal to provide free resources for teachers. It makes me sad to see great resources like Little Giraffes disappear from the Internet. I am excited to have the opportunity to keep that from happening by adding www.littlegiraffes.com to A to Z's family of sites. All those great ideas will stay accessible for teachers to use in their classrooms. :2up:
Oh Thank you I found Little girraffes over here when I taught preschool, then I moved to HS Life Skills and found I still use it as a basis for alot of my lessons since my kids function from Preschool to 3rd grade.
You all have to let me know if you find out that any other great sites are threatening to disappear. I am always looking to add more sites to A to Z's family. Even if the owner doesn't want to sell, at the least I'd like to let them know that letting their domain expire will release it to be used by people who set up link farms to make money, or worse, redirect it to porn sites. It's fair game once it expires and the ones that are most likely going to be exploited are those that have been online for a while and have tons of links from other teacher sites. All of those sites then end up having a bunch of links pointing to junk, so the effects are far-reaching!
WAY TO GO Amanda!!! Thank you for your dedication. Little Giraffes is an awesome site!:clap::clap:
Is there anyone that could get ahold of Mrs. Pohlmeyer and see if the same thing could happen to her site? She still has the domain, she just says sorry, she had to close it.
