Im seeking the help of some of you posters. So far, anything I have asked, I have been given great advice. I'm thinking of applying for a part time literacy consultant job. You need a Master and at least 4 years teaching kinderagrten. They ask for the applicant to suggest their hourly rate in their cover letter. What are some reasonable hourly rates? Thanks in advance.
When I tutor, I charge $70 per hour (NYC suburbs). I have 12 years experience teaching, have 60+ PD credits, and have taught a grad class in early childhood literacy for several semesters so I think I'd look in at least the $70/hr range at least in this area. A friend who is Orton Gillingham certified charges more for tutoring if the parents want OG tutoring. While consultants can probably charge more than tutors, the requirements are for only 4 years experience and you only mentioned a masters-not a literacy specialist cert. You might want to consider the pay that tutors get in your area and then bump up just a bit, although I would also put in the salary requirements that it was negotiable...
I charge 70 now to tutor. I have two masters plus 45. I also hold my SBL. However like stated they only require 4 years of exp in early childhood. Thanks for the suggestion. I admire that you teach a college class as well. I have been looking into that myself but can't seem to find any openings.
I would check the district's salary schedule to see what their average hourly rate for teachers is. then base your rate off of that.
I worked with a consultant who charged $1200 a day. She was a former teacher, principal, had a doctorate degree, and was a national speaker.
Wow. :sorry: That would be a pay cut for me. You'll hopefully build your resume, get good experience and be ready soon for a principal position.
I'm okay with it. Its a start. And I'm only 31 years old so I have a lifetime of instructional leadership ahead of me.
