What do you use for your listening center? Does anyone know where I can find tape/cd players, headphones, books on tape, etc? Is there a "kit" out there somewhere?

If you go to scholastic.com or other website, I am sure there are kits and books/cd's on tape. I'm scared of the prices, though! Our wonderful librarian wrote a grant for us and got each teacher books/cds/tapes.

You can always go get cheap portable cd players from walmart and record your own stories using your computer.

Check the library at your school and public library.

I use the cd's that come with our Reading series. They listen to the anthology stories, or the guided reader stories, depending on the day of the week. No money out of my pocket or budget.

One teacher at our school uses individual CD players with headphones insted of one player with a listening center set up.
Then the children can listen to something from their reading group, and you still have multiple levels of kids in the listening station.

I have 8 baskets with portable CD and tape players that I bought off ebay. I set them each up with a book in the basket, and the CD or tape already in the player (so no kids messing with the CDs and scratching them). This way they can listen to one story and then swap the whole basket for a different story.

Most of my sets I have bought through the Scholastic book orders in Seesaw. Each month they have a set of 4 stories with CDs for $20.

By the way... I also bought some from here:

    http://www.weeklyreader.com/estore/t-qvc3.aspx

It's a great deal. The only catch is that the CD has to be set to track 3 to listen to the story (no idea why, but I knew this before buying them and still wanted them anyways). 12 HARDCOVER books for $24.95?! I was sold... and they include the audio CD?! I love them (and so do the kids).

The website wouldn't work for me - go figure - but I called customer service, and they hooked me up!
