I haven't known him for long, but I admire this man. We've been in school for 3 days. In that time, we've had an impromptu 2 minute meeting (with ice cream!) and 2 emails thanking us for helping get the school year off to a great start. He's outside for supervision duty every recess, getting to know that students. I really, really like his style and I know, from others who have worked with and for him, that what we see is what we get. We are very lucky.

Applause! I knew you were looking forward to working with him, but he sounds like he actually exceeds your expectations.

    He sounds wonderful!

Working with someone unafraid to get "down in the trenches" makes such a difference.

As most of you know, every administrator in my building teaches at least 2 classes. It really does make a difference.

After working for years for principals who were chained to their computers with their backs to the door, this is a refreshing change. I'm not sure how much he's ever in his office.

I had three job offers when I was looking for my first teaching job not long ago, and chose this position due to my interactions with the principal. A good boss is worth a significant amount of money in my book.

I had a terrible boss my first year. Ever since then I've had the most amazing boss. People ask how long I think I'll stay. I always tell them, as long as the p is there, I'll be there! A good p is worth his/her weight in gold!

Do you have any openings? I'd still be close to the family! Kidding. (or not)

    Glad you're happy!

Mrs. C, I am happy for you and I am definitely feeling the same way. We have a new principal and refreshing is the same way that I described our new principal. It is so nice to have someone who is doing the job that a principal should be doing. I am working on my Master's Degree and the majority of the things that I am learning about effective leadership; he is doing. The one thing that I enjoy the most about Mr. G is that he values the opinion of the staff. Our last principal wasn't opened to any suggestions.

We have a new P to the building as well, and so far he has been great!

We just may, giraffe. For the moment, we are "holding", but may have to reorganize in a couple of weeks as we had an influx of new registrations in grades 4-6 and houses are still being built all around the school. We're only about 4 hours from the Ambassador Bridge !

That's great MrsC! That's half or most of the battle right there! I like my new P too! I'm not a regular teacher, so she stays out of my hair & is cordial, which is basically all I want from any P.

We have a P similar to yours. He was outside the other day helping the workman dig a hole for a new fountain for our playground. Always has a smile on his face and his door is always open.

Along the same lines, my new P is turning out to be even more amazing than she was as an AP. Hoping everyone is having a well-supported year of teaching.

Those of us who stayed a little late today heard this announcement (which was also sent out as an email), "Good afternoon, ____ staff. Thank you, again, for making this first week so successful. The students went home with smiles on their faces. The parents went home with smiles on their faces. That is all because of YOU. Your dedication to creating a positive community has been incredible. Please feel free to take the next two days off and enjoy a well-deserved rest."

What a lovely message! One thing I like that our P says in his morning announcements is, "Good morning, LaGrange family." He goes on from there.

DITTO! I know the feeling! It's so refreshing and makes work a lot more enjoyable. My P is also out in the trenches daily, speaking to students, checking in on our classrooms daily, quick staff meetings... she is about her business and I LOVE IT!

We have a new P at our school after 27 years! The faculty over-all decided we liked her over another candidate and our headmaster went with our decision. We were worried about a few things- she wanted lesson plans (we don't have to type up lesson plans), among other things that were different than how the community worked under our old P.

Thankfully, she has a wonderful personality, she's humble while also being wise and calm, and she's taking baby steps with us, such as having us create a classroom site, but only posting homework daily on it to get us started.

I'm very happy to hear that others are having a good time with their new P's. Hopefully this will continue for us :D
