I am writing to request letters of recommendation from past and current mentors. One of my professors suggested getting the requests in early, but how long do you give someone to write the letter? The deadline for me is not until the end of the semester, but I'm sure if I gave 9 weeks as a deadline to my mentors it would be pushed to the back burner til the last second.

I would start early....your mentors are busy and giving them plenty of time is a good idea. I would send out your request now and follow up after two weeks!

I agree with Blooms advice. Give them as much time as possible to get it done.
