How often do you get long-term (LT) assignments (at least a month)?

What's the LONGEST assignment you've ever had?

Do you prefer LT or different day-to-day subbing assignments?

I LOVE LT assignments, esp the feeling that I'm covered for at least the next several mos or all yr w/ paychecks! I like knowing where I'll be going & not being called the morning of the day, which doesn't happen to me that much thank God. I definitely prefer LT as opposed to day-to-day.

I've had numerous LT jobs lasting from a few mos to the whole school yr. I've done just about 20 LT assigments throughout the several yrs I've been subbing. I think that's pretty good! There's even 1 SLP I've been subbing for 1-2 days/wk since fall 2008. :)

I have had atleast one long term position for the last 5 years and will be starting one in December. Most of my long terms have been about 10-12 weeks with the longest one being a whole semester. I love long terms for the money and the bond I get with my kiddos.

I had a LT position that lasted from September to the end of October. It ended up going until the first week in December on a day to day....(long bad story. I'm bitter about it and NEED to leave it in the past)

I currently, by surprise, just started a LT position. It is due to last until December. I have to establish authority in the class. The kids are highly disrespectful. I am doing more behavior management then teaching--it is frustrating! I am happy to know were I'll be everyday. But I have an interview on Friday and have to get the school to get me a sub for the last half of the day! I'm so SCARED to leave these kids with another Sub.

(I forgot to answer the question) I prefer knowing exactly were I will be from day to day. I thrive on a set schedule that doesn't come with being in a different room everyday, or a different school everyday.

I've been subbing since May '08. I had one LTS job last year that lasted from March-May. I am starting one in a few weeks which will last until the end of the school year. It will be nice to know where I am going each day & getting to know the kids. Also, the teacher's salary I will be getting is pretty awesome too!

money good, long term with rotten kids so baaad...just got off a long term assignment...ended up suspending two kids and writing bunch of referrals for language, fights, leaving class, etc...what is funny is that they were upset when I told them I was leaving...apparantly they liked my ass-kicking I gave them. Def. more classroom management than teaching...I have learned something though. I LOVE teaching, hate having to classroom manage everyday...

All teaching involves classroom management every minute of every day.

I get where you are comming from, but some classes are better at that then others. She wants those better classes or rather is highly disappointed when she has to disipline instead of teaching...Prime example, I was subbing a 5th grade class. This class wanted to TRY me (2nd time I subbed this group). I could not even get out of mouth the directions for a math test...everytime I tryed they kept on talking/laughing , being rude etc!! Another teacher had to step in to get them to behave, the principal steped in, the parental involment specialist had to step in....It was not a good day I wrote 3 refferals!! Sry to get off topic..I just think she ment she does not want a day like this where no real teaching can get done is all!! Some kids come to school to learn and it's sad that some kids won't let that happen!! I was a victim of this when I was in elem school myself as a student!! I would go home and say mom the class was bad again!!

It IS sad. I subbed for a kinder class today. Haven't done general ed in ages & it's reconfirmed why I had stopped. Parents don't teach their kids to resepct & obey teachers anymore. These 4 kinder boys just did as they pleased right after I told them to do something, but oh heaven forbid you raise your voice at them, then the parents (who help out in the class) will say you're being mean & the teacher won't ask you to sub for her/him anymore. I was told today that the last sub was "mean" & traumatized the kids...yeah, I see why she had to be mean, but I usually keep my cool & talk sweetly, yet firmly if I hv to. I'd rather it be a little noisy because it's no use raising my voice too much. I don't feel like having a sore, hoarse voice at the end of the day. Flickering lights, ringing bells, etc. only got their attn for 2 sec.

1 of the 4 consistently ill behaved boys today kept playing at recess when the proctor called everyone over to line up, I walked to him & told him when that bell rings, he needs to line up NOW. His response? "YOU line up." And this is just kinder. SAD! A LOT more parents need to be spanking butts at home & nipping this smart ass back talk & other negative behavior in the bud.

I've worked w/ grades as high as 8th...when it's a small grp setting, such as speech, which is only 30 min long, so that's just fine.

My state does not allow for LTS assignments to be past sixty days, unless the sub becomes contracted. Anyone else have the same situation? They want LTS to have standard certs, which really doesn't make any sense, because you can become hired just with a provisional.

My state requires all subs to be certified in the content area in which they are subbing. For LTS assignments lasting less than 45 days, they pay daily sub rate. For assignments lasting more than that (mine will be seven months), they have to pay the contracted teacher rate. No benefits, but sick and personal days are provided.

I had two long term subbing assignments. One from February-April with the next from April-June.

    I love LT assignments!

I hope I'm able to get another LT assignment after I'm done with student teaching and have my credential.
