It's starting to get close. How much longer do you have until summer break? As of tomorrow I have 20 school days left.

I have about 45 or so days. I'm not going to bother counting this year... I only get two "school days" off... and then summer school starts. Come the middle of July though, and I'll be able to give you an exact count. Probably down to the minutes!

    I'm not sure.....
We have 33 days until our original last day of school.
However, due to snow days we may have to add on two days. It's not official and my calculations are only one day of school. So 33, 34, or 35!

Though I am subbing, 43 left. Easy to remember when you sub in a kindergarten class which is keeping track of the number of days they've been in school ;)

6 weeks and 1 week of 4 minimum days. I don't want to count days, because the big numbers will make it sound longer :) this way it's just 6 haha

4.5 weeks after spring break (this week). One day is a holiday, and 3 days are finals so they aren't really instructional days. So............. 20 days? :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

My academic calendar says I'm in Week 31 of my coursework with my students. We have 36 weeks total. There are a couple of weeks after that for teacher stuff, and I still have a ton of Common Core to complete, plus rounding out the non-Common Core academic calendar for next year (that's a long story). Thankfully, my grad school semester ends on Sunday, giving me a month off before my summer courses begin.

I love my job, too. However we have finished our high stakes testing and now is the struggle to keep the kids engaged. They're tired and so am I. It's been a rough rough year. Probably my toughest since I've been teaching. I'm ready for a break. Since I spend most of my summer on PD, I don't feel guilty at all.

Exactly. I feel like HT wanted to make people feel guilty about counting down and being excited until Summer Break.

    Guilty? Not I.

Ditto! Love every day, even if it makes me want to pull my hair out. I look forward to breaks, because why look down upon them...but don't let that get in the way of putting the best foot forward every day. Sort of like the maternity leave job when I found out it would be ending soon...I put every ounce of effort and countless evenings/weekends in (well, not countless, since it was the last couple weeks..ha), but also had that countdown to when I'd have extra time to spend with my wife, go back around the district, and focus on applications ...not because I don't love the kids or the job, but knowing that I want to keep a fully positive outlook! TL;DR - Counting down and enjoying work are not mutually exclusive.

I enjoy my job and see the detriments to students academically and otherwise of taking 1/4 of the year off of school at a time, so I don't count down the days until summer.

New guy. ^ Just kidding ( a little) HT. If they paid me at my regular salary for all 4-5 weeks in the summer I would happily work more with kids. I like the idea of year round school with smaller breaks in between. Teaching PE in Fla without a gym in the summer is almost prohibitive during the day.

I have been very fortunate to have always enjoyed whatever I have done for a living. However, I can honestly say I have always looked forward to weekends/vacations/time off as well. the events are not mutually exclusive. The extended time off was a real selling point for me to enter the profession after I left engineering.

So, about 25 (give or take) school days left. Then it's a 4 week backpacking trip for me.

I love my students and my job. I also love getting to spend time with my family, and to actually have real time to interact with my daughter during weekdays. I apologize for neither of these things, nor should any other teacher. Or any working professional of any sort, for that matter.

I see summers totally differently. In the summer, I work at a program for gifted middle and high school students. That program is home for them, and without longer breaks from school, they would not have access to that level of enrichment. Gifted kids are so often neglected in schools, it's nice that they have a place to be challenged. The rest of the summer I use for taking graduate classes, and preparing for the next school year, both personally and curriculum. I clean and prepare my classroom. I write lesson plans. I read, both for pleasure and for professional development. I do not find it unprofessional at all to look forward to having time to both relax, and grow. Both of those things make me a better teacher. I also agree that it would be incredibly expensive to keep classrooms cool enough to have school in the summer, and also to pay teachers for the extra month of work that would require.

Definitely should not feel guilty!! Additionally, I look forward to the weekends, and to dismissal, and to times when my students are quiet... :p

At the same time, I still love them & teaching <3

When I was in the classroom, I definitely counted down the days. I do love my hours of unstructured time; so many books, so little time! But, now that I am a tutor, I pray for as many summer hours as I can get. I have several students who will be working through June, a couple who might have to Skype to finish up (not as much fun) and could take until August. But, I tutor in a gorgeous, modern small tutoring school, some hours at homes, some at a tennis center. There's no time to get bored. I love the kids .... but I really love my free time, too.

To all of you counting the days, take many deep breaths, try to use as many worthwhile educational games in your classes as you can, and give yourselves a break.

We have 32 days left! I don't see anything wrong with counting down or with kids have a break in the summer. We all need to recharge, and structured classrooms aren't the only (and arguably not even the BEST) way to learn.

I do not feel any guilt in counting down days. I do it between Thanksgiving and Christmas, to Spring Break, and to the end of the school year. The students love it as do I. I live for the weekends and breaks, even though I love what I do.

27 more days. Any one of them I'm out all day for math adoption and two of them are all-day field trips for kayaking and a water park (5th grade graduation). We have so many assemblies, presentations, testing days and other 'fun stuff that there are only 15 days without SOMETHING going on. And I'm sure more will come up.

We start REALLY early (Aug. 7 this year), so we're ready for the break, and then it's a scramble to get a vacation in before we start planning again. I get to go to CO for a week to see my new niece or nephew, a week to see my parents, and then it's back home for PD and team meetings until school starts August 6!

I really can't imagine not having these kids, though. It's going to be really, really sad on the last day of school.

Also, I think I'm looking forward to summer so much because it's time for me to reflect on this year and change things up for next year. I only had 2 weeks to get ready for the year this year, as I was hired/moved so late. I'm looking forward to organizing, laying out my pacing guide/units now that I'm familiar with the school culture (TONS of assemblies) and working with my new team teachers. So for me, it's not necessarily rushing through this year, it's excitement to lay out next year and tighten things up. ;)

About 9 more weeks starting next week (I am on sprong break right now). Of course, next week is 2 & 1/2 days, so a nice, short week to start back after break.

I was right with the middle number! Ha! I know more than the people running my district- or at least I'm better at math ;)
We have to add one day to the end of the year, and with today in the books, we have 33 days left.
