I have a second interview for a Pre K teaching position in 2 weeks and I have to teach a lesson to the school board and administration. I was given PA Standard 1.1.PK.B and told to write a lesson based on it. Does anyone have any ideas that can/will help me. I have researched and I think I am over thinking it. I will have access to a SMARTboard for the lesson. The standard is this:

    1.1.PK.B.

    Employ word recognition

    techniques:

    Associate some letters

    with their names and

    sounds.

    Differentiate letters

    from numbers.

    Identify familiar

    words in

    environmental print

    I'm sorry.. what's your question?

Where are you in the process, and what has you stumped?

(No, I won't be the one to help you.. so NOT my area of expertise. But the people who CAN help you need to know where the problem is.)

I would look up some smartboard lessons in which the students have to match beginning sounds with a letter. For example, if your focus letter is M, you could have pictures of a man, mouse, house, car, muffin, etc. If you're not comfortable with using a smartboard, you could use picture cards. You could probably also find songs for whatever letter.

Also, I don't think I would try and hit all those benchmarks in one lesson. Seems like a lot.

    Hope this helps. Good luck!

Using environmental print is fun. You could bring in empty packages of food or household items, signs, what have you, and have the kids identify some words. They could also identify some numbers in the container, for example, where weight or quantities are listed. Just brainstorming here...

That seems like more than one standard...
