I am teaching a unit on number sense, and I was wondering if any of you have a tried and true way to teach ordering or comparing numbers. I need to introduce the vocabulary least to greatest, and I can relate least to littlest number, but I am not sure about greatest.
This is for second grade. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

Can you use real-life manipulatives to show them, like putting apples in a bag or something?

I could. I usually give them cards with numbers written on them and they line up from least to greatest or greatest to least. I was just hoping someone would share what they have tried. The visual of having the manipulatives in front of them is a great idea. Thank you:)

I used the number line. I would say a number like 4 have them cover it & then say a number like 9 and ask if this number is above (or larger than) the 4. I don't know if that makes sense. I started slow.

I also used a work sheet with only a few number like 3 at a time to put in order then added more to them.
