I have to eat with the kids. They have a 30 minute lunch. I usually get to sit down after they have gone through the line leaving about 15 minutes to wolf something down. As for "specials" Art, Music, and Counseling are held in my room. Hard to get things done with that going on and there is no place to go and work quietly. The only break I get is PE which is only thirty minutes. By the time I get to the bathroom, copy room, etc time is up.
We have 45 minutes, and we are expected to use 15 of those minutes as prep time (30 minutes duty-free). We do not have any type of lunch or recess duty.
I'm jealous of the hour-long and even 30-minute duty free lunches. We get 23 minutes, and we have to eat in the cafeteria, which I think is pretty ridiculous for a high school.
Wow, no duty free lunch here. (Alabama Gulf Coast). You eat with the students, and at the same table usually. When I was working, I hated lunch time because I never got to enjoy my food. I was too busy monitoring the many food issues that come up and keeping discipline under control.
Kids have 40 min lunch, then recess. We get a 30 minute lunch...time is factored into us walking them through the lunch line, etc. Sometimes it's more than 30 min, sometimes less.
So, for those of you who have duty, when do you get a chance to go to the restroom? Do you at least get to do that? Law says you must have access to the restroom at all times. I had a bout of UTI and it's no fun.
I go to the bathroom during lunch since there are enough of us to watch each others class. I also go during their PE time and sometimes when the resource teacher is in the room teaching her kids.
Usually there are enough teachers in the lunch room to allow all the teachers to take a bathroom break if need be.
All lunch periods are 40 minutes, plus A Prep Period and on Fridays my kids have Library and Instrumental Music; this day I get 3 free periods.
Lunch is about 30 minutes. We eat in the cafeteria, and monitor our kids as they go through the line. There is usually about 15 minutes to sit and eat. Then we have about 15 minutes of prep time while they are at recess. One day a week we have lunch dismissal duty, which uses up most of that time.
15 minutes eating with the kids or 8 minutes "duty free" if I choose to return to my classroom to work.
I get several hours but my lunch break varies day to day. Then again, I don't have a full class to teach. Just small group sessions.
