Had it really been a week since I got the job?

Things have been crazy around here, but now the car is packed and I'm only waiting for my daughter to arrive before I leave.

Only now do I realize I must be completely crazy to do this.:eek::eek:

I have made it to Iowa! Of course we are several hours behind. There was a traffic jam that started about 30 miles before the end of Michigan and lasted until Chicago, 50 miles into Illinois. So yes that does mean all of Indiana was one long 10 mile an our traffic jam. Ugh, Indiana is boring enough.......least through there. So we won't make Omaha tonight as planned...but maybe des Moines.

I was at the Tigers game, so I didn't have a chance to wish you a safe trip! Hopefully you will have no more traffic for the rest of your journey!

Only made it to Iowa City, my feet were killing me. They hurt more than if I had walked all the way here!

So things we have seen today:

A new mustang all in white with cool retro 70's stripes al la starskey and hutch

A massive traffic jam populated with people who are too stupid to drive

    Windmills

A non boring forest, my son tells me this is very important because it had color variation, I choose to not argue with him.

A man made box canyon in Illinois

    Corn

    Corn

    Corn

For a change of pace, soybeans.

    Corn

    Corn

    The Mississippi River

    Corn, corn and more corn

    The worlds largest truck stop

Oh, guess what? We saw some corn!

I have high hopes for Nebraska, I am sure all we will see is corn!

Several years ago we drove from Texas to Wisconsin for Christmas. Guess what we saw from Oklahoma to Wisconsin. This nasty white stuff. It was all over! Be glad you get to see colors, even if it's just green from the corn stalks. Have a safe trip.

I've done the cross country trip once before, when we moved from Washington state back to Michigan, in December. That winter was horrible, we followed a series of blizzards the whole way, it was -40 most days and the doors of the van were so cold it was dangerous to touch them. The kids were all in the back in their snow suits, wrapped up in sleeping bags with blankets on them because we couldn't' get the van to heat up enough to combat the bitter cold. All we saw on that trip was snow and cars in ditches....this is much more fun.....because we get to see CORN! (Oh and we missed all the cool stuff in Wyoming because we did that in the middle of the night to avoid the storm, this time Colorado will be in the day time! MOUNTAINS! :D)

I'm glad you are excited about the mountains! I'm not sure how I would handle driving through the Rockies. I remember on my first trip to NC I didn't even make it to West Virginia on I-77 before I made my mom drive! (Yes, I quit in Ohio) The second time my sister was with me and she was sleeping. I had to do it, but it was ssslllooowwww! (She drove on the way back since it was raining and she wanted to get home. She said I was too slow ) The third time I was alone- and late. I had to pick up the pace. Now I've done it so many times it is 2nd nature. I actually love the stretch of NB I-77 in West Virginia between Beckley and Charleston. The part where the speed limit is 60. No one goes 60 (more like 75-80), and it is really fun to drive!

Really? I thought since it's still in eastern standard time, it's still considered an eastern state, or the Ohio Valley. But that's good to know! I definitely never been in the Mountain or Central time zones though for sure, except flying over them. Lol:)

Update from the road! Merely to keep all you lovely people informed and nothing at all do with the fact that there is no air conditioning in my car and it is 85 outside! :p We have made it to Nebraska!

    Things learned in Iowa:

Picking up hitchhikers is frowned upon, there were a lot of signs telling me this

I must stop for school buses picking up children, on the side of the highway? (well that is where the signs were!)

Rolling hills of corn can be pretty to look at, for the first two hours.

There will be a bumper crop of soybeans this year

In other news, seems Iowa has a new crop, these things are everywhere! :D

(btw that is a cop behind me, angry that I was only going 80....he passed me on the right.....speed limit was 70)

And just when I kept saying in my head over and over again, I just want out of Iowa, they roll out the red highway for me

Hopefully we can make up some time tonight, as we are still several hours behind. We lost a few hours this morning to dense fog.

Those are actually called Wind Farms. People rent the land to the person who owns the windmill.

Oh I know, but I was being silly. I have never seen them so big before. In Michigan the size is severely limited
