I have a 2nd grader who is far below grade level in everything. Yesterday I gave him his mCLASS (running record, basically) assessment. He's very low, so I started with a print concepts assessment. I pointed to a period on the page and asked him what that was called. He couldn't tell me. I said, "This is a period, it tells the reader that's the end of the sentence." Then I asked him to point to another period on the page. Without a moment's hesitation he points to a mole on his arm and says, "right here!":lol::lol: I have my work cut out for me, that's for sure!

That is funny! He sounds like a kid that will use humor to deflect confusion. (I hope because otherwise you have a kid that over generalizes and your job making sure he really understands everything is going to be a tough one.)

I have high school kids Who. Type. Like. This. They find it hilarious when I read their stuff and stomp on every word because that's how it reads. Maybe some stuff on Grammar Bytes / Chomp-Chomp might work?

One of my students presented me with a little, green, plastic apple this morning. She told me her Grandpa told her that kids are supposed to take an apple to their teacher and that was the only apple she could find.

I had a student raise his hand and said he needed to two. I was thinking "I need to too". I didn't get it. Finally, I was like you have to go to the bathroom?

LOL now that was funny! We were acting out stranger danger scenerios with my kindergartners and using code words with people you know. A little girl told me she was standing with her brother an some guy was talking to them and she yelled, "stranger danger we gotta run away."

At least I know she was able to apply the information to real life.

Our class just started reading No Talking by Andrew Clements. In the book, it's boys v. girls on who can go two days without talking-with the exception of 3 word responses to adults. My kiddos decided to practice this during lunch (teachers are out with the kids). One of my students comes up and says "may I bathroom?" I could NOT stop laughing!
