Have a blast Alice! Less than two weeks left for me . The forecast is calling for rain the first few days we're there but as long as there isn't thunder and lightning it seems most rides stay open so if it does rain we'll go on the rides we can (in our dollar store ponchos of course) and hopefully enjoy the shorter lines.
So glad that, for the most part, your trip was all that you expected. I hope Peter's finger heals quickly! Nice to have you back!
Ouch, sorry to hear about Peter's finger. Could have been worse though! One of my good friends had to have an emergency appendectomy on a school trip a few years ago.
Sorry about Peter's finger! I'm amazed the crowds were that low. Were you there at opening time every day? I can't believe we fly off the day after tomorrow! While you continue on your post-vacation laundry, I'm in full force with pre-vacation laundry .
So glad you had a good time, in spite of Peter's misadventure. Hope everything turns out ok. We did have some fierce storms last week! Aren't those fireworks stupendous? I set my clocks at home to them. Every night at 9:10 and 10:10 we hear the booms and bangs. Too bad there are too many trees and buildings in the way...would be great if we could sit on our patio every night and watch the fireworks.
Turns out it was. He was just admitted to the ER. Hes looking at being at the hospital until probably Saturday while they work to clear up the infection.
Oh no, Alice! I'm so sorry. Hope he's on the mend soon. I got a severe ear infection once on vacation. Wound up in the ER just screaming in pain (I think I was about 8?). Still brings back terrible memories! If it makes you feel better, my uncle goes on scuba trips at least 2x/year and for about 5 years straight, he was injured on every single trip. One time he broke his leg and they didn't even have crutches that were the same height on the island, let alone an x-ray machine! It became the running joke of the family-whenever they got back we'd ask what he'd injured!
I just downloaded our 2 Photopass cards... 189 pictures before I add in any borders or do any editing.
Wow - that's a lot of photos. Can't wait to add to it . So sorry to hear Peter's finger is that bad. I hope he is on the mend quickly.
MsMar, the crowds were at 9's or 10's when we were there over spring break, and we had the same experience--very little waiting, as long as you know what to hit right away in the morning and use the fastpasses well! Alice, great idea on giving away the extra fast passes! I hope Peter is better soon.
I've been busy the last few days planning which rides to hit first and which Fast Passes to get. It's all coming together! My daughter is sooooo excited for Splash Mountain . And it's nice to know that the regular rides won't have crazy waits, and we'll use Fast Passes for the big attractions. In 24 hours we'll be at the air port!
This thread makes me want to go to Disney! I haven't been since I was six. Hope you have a great time, MsMar!
Have a great time! We are supposed to be getting on and off rain next week so that should keep your temps and the crowds down.
Absolutely use sunscreen. The sun down here is more intense than in the north. I feel so bad when I see families strolling through the parks and the poor children are so red! I would wear sunscreen even if it's cloudy.
Oh yes, we're a fair skinned bunch and will definitely be putting on the sunscreen multiple times per day even when cloudy. I just know from past experience that I inevitably miss some body part on somebody and we get some sun burn. So hopefully some clouds and rain will reduce the likelihood of that a bit.
I spent the afternoon in the pool and got a mild (for me anyway) sunburn. Mild enough that there was no pain, but most definitely pinker than when I left NY. Right now I'm at the leprosy stage, where my nose is peeling.
We came back today from a great ten day vacation, well 8 days of vacation and 2 days of travel. All the pre-planning really paid off. The main piece of advice I can give is to get to the park 30 minutes or so before it opens. We were in line every day between 8:15 and 8:30 for the 9:00 openings. I spent the time in line getting the family covered in sun screen and I'm pleased to report that after 8 days in the Florida 90 degree heat, not a single family member got burnt. And we were in water parks three days! But back to my point... by arriving early we could go in, head for the most popular ride and then after riding it get a Fast Pass for it, head to another popular ride or two and then do the Fast Pass ride for the one we did first to enjoy it a second time. We loved our character meals at Tusker House and Crystal Palace and the Wishes Dessert party was fabulous. We plan to be a "one and done" as far as Disney, but if for some reason we do go back, I'd pretty much do it all the same as we did this trip.
And again, thank you for all your tips and suggestions. The YES classes were nice and the discounted ticket prices were AWESOME! Loved that we were able to add on the water parks for so little. I am now telling all my friends about it as soon as I hear them talking about a Disney trip. Heck, I told a stranger about it as we chatted in line at the wait to see Merida!
You're so welcome! Disney called today while the visiting nurse was working with Peter. They wanted to thank me for the letters I sent, and to ask how he was.
This Earth Science teacher approves. Go Kira! She could also look up where the earthquake swarms are and where Isaac is tracking. Google Earth is great. And Google Moon and Google Mars. I'm so excited for the updates to come with Google Mars.
