Good Morning! I hope everyone is off to a great school year. I am writing to ask what you all wear for a lanyard. We wear a teacher photo ID every day and need to wear it around our necks. I'm pretty sure we can wear it on our pants/waist but I'm a dress wearer a lot of the time. Sooo.... The ones that are from the Brighton jewelry store are pretty, BUT I find them heavy and like I'm wearing another piece of jewelry. And if you add your keys to the lanyard, it's super heavy! The school lanyard is thick and itchy. Ah, if this were our only problem as educators...!!!
The problem with around the neck lanyards is they dangle in your face when you bend over a little. Depending on what age level and how often you have to do this, it might be a consideration worth noting.
I have this one. Big surprise, it is a KU lanyard. But, it is very comfortable. http://www.kubookstore.com/p-23745-kansas-jayhawk-lanyard.aspx
I bought a really cute lanyard from this shop on Etsy. It's well made and doesn't feel heavy and I love the cute pattern I picked http://www.etsy.com/shop/SewMuchDetail
This is the one I have. They have it in TONS of different colors. I went with blue since it's our main school color. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0054LO6ZU
I have a Vera Bradley lanyard, and I like it...but it looks dirty around the back, where it hangs under my hair. Of course, it IS now three years old, and it has certainly lasted for the $8 I paid for it. Time for a new one, though.
I have an USMC lanyard I talked out of the recruiter when he came to school. DH was a Marine when we met, so I thought it was appropriate.
I have a CIA lanyard that I picked up for free at a booth at a conference. I like it because it has one of those squeezy buckle clips on the end, so I can remove my keys easily and not have to take the whole lanyard off. It's nylon, so it's not scratchy or anything. I like it.
I have this one...... but it's really quite clumsy to use. http://www.blackhawk.com/product/Tactical-Pistol-Lanyard,194,88.htm
We are required to wear our photo i.d. and the keys to our room so we could lock the doors quickly in case of emergency. I wear the one the school gave me but it has a quick release on the back which bugs me. I just bought a beaded one because it was pretty but the last one broke and pulled the hairs on my beck (tmi?). I keep trying to find one I will like. The fabric ones posted look like they would rub less. I'll keep trying but they do get annoying when you walk, hit kids when you bend over and are generally a pain in the neck.
I making embroidery ones to sell at a craft fair with teachers name and school on them. I am making the ones you also wear as a bracelet.
I use a zip cord instead of a lanyard. Any lanyard used in a classroom should have a break away release, so if it gets caught on anything or a kid grabs it (maliciously or not) it will release.
We don't have to wear ours, but I wear so many skirts and dresses that I like having one for when I don't have pocketsand have my hands full. I use a Green Bay Packer one given to me by a student for Christmas my first year. In the classroom, I keep them hanging on a small 3M hook right by the light switch.
Funny thing is my kids are well behaved ...... and treat me with great respect ...... (And of course a swagger stick not only makes a great prop, but it keeps the interest level high) .....
Most of the teachers in my school wear theirs but I don't. I hate wearing things around my neck, including necklaces. It also has my legal first name on it, but I don't use my legal first name, so it is confusing to parents and causes too many questions from the students. I also have issues when I sign in for workshops and stuff b/c my names don't match up.
We are all suppose to wear them, but the men at my school don't. It wasn't a situation where we all got together and decided we wouldn't, just happens that none of us do.
We aren't required to wear our IDs at this point, but I'd get a clip if I had to wear one. I am not a fan of anything touching the back of my neck and rarely even wear necklaces. I have tried lanyards in the past for my keys, but they drove me nuts.
They seem to be quite the fashion items lately. I saw a bunch of booths with them at the fair this summer. I have a couple that I purchased at Spencer Gifts. I rarely wear them because I don't like it banging on me when I walk or bend over. I usually shove the whole thing in my pocket and only put it on if I leave the classroom.
I have a blue one with a black latch that can disconnect the key and yellow words for the school name
