I'm still wearing nursing bras (have been for the past 7 years!) so I'm useless for advice.
But I just came to say that a great bra is worth its price in gold. Unfortunately, too many crappy bras cost just as much, but fall apart within weeks.

Yes that's the problem I'm having! I don't mind spending $40-$50 but it better be worth the money haha.
I like the Modern Movement brand. I buy them at Dillards, but you could probably find them at any large department store. $40, but they last!
As someone on the larger side I always found Victoria's Secret cheaply made. I haven't bought their bras in at least 18 years.
I would search through department stores in their bra section because everyone has different tastes and bra requirements but I find them to be of decent quality.
I wear the Ambrielle brand which JCPenney carries.
I like Curvy Couture bras (I am a plus sized woman so I have never fit into Victoria's Secret sizes). I found them on zulily for cheap. I also like the Vanity Fair back smoothing bra, especially since Kohl's now carries extended sizes online and in store.

I've never had a problem with Target. I bought VS once and it wasn't worth it
I recently discovered the Hanes site, which also carries other brands and you can shop by size. Their return policy is great IF you remember to get it all back in time. If your size is available in most dept stores I also say check dept stores, where you can try on and see if it works for you. Ugh. I hate bra shopping. (I dislike most clothing shopping - I just am not patient and hate trying stuff on)
Most women are wearing the wrong size bras. Get yourself measured by a professional fitter. And keep in mind that your size can vary slightly between manufacturers or even between styles of the same brand.
My mom loves Soma, but I haven't tried them. I really like Aerie!

I wear Hanes.
You guys are going to laugh, but I just buy my bras at Walmart, and they're fine
Once I bought a strapless bra from Victoria's Secret, it was almost $40, the most uncomfortable bra ever (super thick, tight, just not well constructed)
Last year I found a comfy clearance bra at Khols. It was "Olga" brand. LOVE them... I've bought 4 others and they're all I wear-- I'm a bigger girl and they do the job... plus you can get them on sale-- 2 for $40-50
