This may be a silly question but when labeling things around the room, do you do so all in lowercase?

I'm not a preschool teacher, but I would assume that it would be in all lowercase. The reason I say that is because when I was taking my reading methods course for elementary ed and we made vocab cards for second graders, one of the biggest things that my professor stressed was that the words be in all lowercase! I realize that this is different than labeling a preschool classroom so I may be wrong, but it's just my assumption. :)

When I worked for Migrant Head Start, we labelled all in lower case - in English and in Spanish. Also, we used pictures (cut from catalogs) along with each label.

I have some "ready made" labels and they are all in capital letters. When I make my own sign, I start with a capital letter and use lower case for the rest. I have never given this any thought. I don't think there is a right or wrong way to do it.

For Head Start - I think the reason for using all lower case is because it is just labelling an item. It is not the first word in a sentence or a proper noun.

I have to label in all lowercase, unless the label is the name of the center. We do it this way because that's the way it's written in English. If you were to write a sentence, you would not write Sink. You'd write sink. I think the center labels are different because they're considered proper nouns? Like, Sand and Water is the name of the center. But sand table is lowercase. Hope this helps, I'm having a hard time explaining.

It doesn't matter how you do it . In fact, think about the new Hand writing without tears program...teaching them to write their names in all caps....now that goes totally against the grain. Kids aren't going to learn any more or any less about writing just because a center sign is not written according to the "proper way."

Personally, I think it's important to expose them to how ever they are going to learn it when they begin to read. I wouldn't use all capital letters, but I think it's wouldn't be a big deal if you would use the first in captial and the rest in lower. At the beginning of a sentence the first letter is captial. KWIM?

I'm the same way as most of you. All lower case unless it is a proper noun.

I hadn't really thought about it before, but I think it make sense to write everything in all lower case letters.
