For the past two years I've taken over other peoples rooms as a maternity leave teacher. I finally have my own space in Kind. and it's HUGE! Wow, looking at the before and after pictures, I can tell you put a TON of time and effort into your room. It looks fantastic! I love that you have a seperate little coat/hook area! That's really nice PS. You have the horrible Smartboard arm too?! I thought my school was the only one with those. Ours are really low, and we have a lot of teachers that constantly bump their heads (I'm only 5' 2", so this is not a problem for me!).
That is a beautiful room! I love the dramatic play area and the block area is wonderful. I have a new SmartBoard that moves up and down. It looks like yours does too. I notice you have a paper cutter out on the counter. I keep mine hidden and only bring it out when the children are out of the room. Better safe than sorry. Have a great year in your new room!
Looks great! I love: -Your block & manipulative area-you have so much stuff!!! -The closet for the kids to hang their stuff up. -The size of your room-it's BIG! You also have the same school supply kits as us .
Wow, that IS big! And what a lovely playground outside, too! I'm jealous! Is the SB arm a problem? I'm getting mine installed in a few weeks...
In reply Thanks for all the nice comments. I'll only have 21 kids for half day. (I'd love a full day or two sections, but our school enrollment for Kindergarten was low this year.) As far as the SMART Board, the arm is high enough that it isn't an issue for me to bump my head. The issue is that the whole board is TOO high. My kiddos can only reach half way up (I have a little step there and also a plastic pointer that seems like it will do the trick but it's hard to tell without having observed them try to use too much of the board.) I did have kids and parents use it for a short activity during meet and greet yesterday and today. The parents enjoyed seeing it in use! I've already moved my paper cutter. It's gotten a lot of use during room set up. Can you believe I got most of the items in this room from previous teachers and my mom (who also taught)? I feel really fortunate to be able to put together a nice space for the kids.
OK, I know this post hasn't been responded to in awhile... but I saw something in the after pics that I just have to have. There's a chart with the headline "All About 'A'" and is has a little poem and pictures... does anyone know where I can find that? Anybody??
It's from Lakeshore. http://www.lakeshorelearning.com/se...ategory/pocketchartsactivitywalls/viewall.jsp
It makes me so happy to see a creative play area in a kindergarten class! I feel like I haven't seen once of those since I was back in kindergarten in the early 90s! It definitely is a huge space but you made it so welcoming.
Wow! It looks like setting up my first classroom will be an overwhelming process. I guess I don't have to wrry about that until I get a job though. LOL!
I showed my wife this room. She got excited and saw how excited I was about it. She then told me, "You are really meant to be a teacher." I smiled. It makes sense. I look at rooms like this and I can only imagine what it would be like to teach in a wonderful space like the one you created! I love it!
Your room is soooo organized and child friendly!! I do wonder...in the manipulative/blocks area, do they take a container to another area of the room or do you designate what can be played with certain days/times on the blue carpet?
