So what's up with letting kids switch teachers halfway through 4th quarter? I have 4 new ones and I've lost a couple--all kids getting D's and F's in EVERYTHING, but convincing their counselors that one teacher really is mean and that they should just switch classes.

Sure, it's kind of a relief to be done with some of them, but then it also feels like a waste of time to have been having parent conferences and holding the kids accountable...and then to have to start from scratch with some new kid who's moving to my class because the previous teacher kept calling home, consulting the counselors, etc. and the kid or parent or counselor is tired of it. I have one now who has already had two other teachers for this subject this year! Maybe the third time's the charm?

just my little vent for the day, after talking to the new boy's dad for the third time in two weeks...

My guess is that the counselors are trying to build a case.

OK, parents, you say it's the teacher's fault. They why is Johnny still failing, even after we switched his teacher???

I think it may be a way of trying to shift responsibility to the kid.

We had some problems with kids switching this year. Teachers said no, counselors said no. Parent whines to the principal and they get moved. Once one kids gets moved other kids try to wiggle their way around the system. I got a kid form another teacher a few weeks ago. Turns out her mom was dating the assistant principal. Talk about pulling strings.
