Classes were NUTS today.:dizzy: By the time 3rd period had come around I was tired of the talking, playing, and interruptions during the lesson. So I sat down, told the kids to get out a sheet of paper and something to write with - which they did. I told them to number from 1 to 5 - which they did. I then told them to write down 5 student behaviors that are appropriate in my classroom - which they did. So, I told them to number from 1 to 5 again - which they did. Next, I told them to be honest and to write down 5 behaviors they actually exhibit in my class - which they did. When finished, each kid had to stand and present what they had written to the class. And I must say - they were VERY honest about how they behave. Finally, I took up their papers and put them away. It was then that I told them, "Now if I need to call your parent, I can show them in your own handwriting how your behavior is in my classroom." They probably heard my kids hollering in the next building. Just had to share....

Oh. My. Goodness. If I EVER return to a traditional setting and have a discipline problem, I am stealing this idea and running with it!

That's awesome! I wish that my seven year olds were more self aware... but I would probably get the same two lists from them.

haha the Momma C five step plan!

Taking time for a little reflection on their behavior is definitely good, though I don't think I'd threaten to break their trust and tell their parents. Perhaps in a couple weeks you can get those papers out and let the kids see if they've made progress or if they're still up to their bad old habits. "What? You haven't grown at all?!?"
