I'm a nanny and the little boy i nanny for is starting kindergarten. What are some things that I can do with him before school starts in a month to get him more ready?

I also nanny for an 8 year old and she's going into the 3rd grade... what are some things i can do with her to get her ready for school in 2 weeks?

Kinder - Reading - write his name, read, read, read, (aloud to him) rhyme (any chants, songs, or nursery rhymes), have him identify letters on cereal box, road signs, etc.

Math - count, play hopscotch with him calling out the numbers, sort toys/clothes/etc., making patterns, estimate, etc.

Third grader (just guessing I teach kinder) - Read! Continue to read aloud to her and have her read aloud to you or younger brother!:)

Multiplication? Fact families for addition and subtraction? Maybe someone in the third grade forum can hook you up!:)

Multiplication may not have been taught yet for the 3rd grader. I wouldn't push that.

I wish we could do an 8:00 bedtime here. My son has football until 8, and by the time he gets home, showered, and eats...bedtime is usually around 9. Luckily he falls asleep quickly :)

I agree with the others - read, read, read! Let that kinder child listen to you read.
