I was just wondering when you are able to get assessments done..I have been working on them for the last 6 days, and I've got quite a bit done, but when I look on what I still need to do, it worries me...I am just wondering on where I could fit them additionally into my day..I could take them out of my specials tomorrow and Friday, I guess, but I hate for them to miss them...As it is, I'm spending the last 45 minutes of the day working on them. We also have about 10 min. of quiet time after lunch that I work with them then...I have an aide, but she is with me to monitor during guided reading lessons only. Here is my schedule-

    7:45-7:55 Kids trickling in...
    8:00 announcements
    8:05 specials
    8:45-8:50 back from specials
    8:50-9:00 Calendar
    9:00-9:20 Phonics Activity/Interactive Writing
    9:20-9:35 Shared Read
    9:35-10:35 Centers/Guided Reading
    10:35-10:45 Snack (do assessments then)
    10:45-11:25 Writing Workshop
11:25-11:35 Sight word/sounds game until lunch
    11:35-12:20 Lunch/Recess
    12:20-12:30 Quiet time
    12:30-1:00 Math Journals/Math Lessons
    1:00-1:20 Science/Social Studies
1:20-2:05-this is when I've been doing 1-1 assessments while kids work on other activities..
    2:15 Dismissal

When I taught K last year, I had to do progress monitoring every 2 weeks, one-on-one which took about an hour. I just extended play time that day to an hour, and did the testing instead of taking small groups as I usually do. It's nice to get it all done in a day.

About every 6 weeks I take a break from guided reading, and I assess kids during Daily 5 time. I also use computer lab time (I have a parent volunteer come in to help the kids once I get them started), and free choice time.

Thanks for the advice-I just found out my great volunteer I have (she is a retired K teacher, so I totally trust her to do assessments) is coming in today for the last hour and half of the day...plus, I have a grandparent that comes in to volunteer and do work with the kids..From 1:00 on, the kids in and out of my room will be crazy..I'm not sure what I'll do with the last hour of the day today...maybe some free choice time toward the end so I can work on assessments myself...
