WEll---I did it! I made it through the interview! Tough questions, broad spectrum, but I think I conveyed myself to the best of my abilities. I did fumble for words once or twice, but hey I am human! I just wanted to touch base and post some of the questions they asked me while they are fresh in my mind. KINDERGARTEN QUESTIONS 1. How would you handle a parent who says that their child is already reading and writing and wants to know what they will learn? 2. How would you incorporate parents in the learning process? 3. How would you approach parents as volunteers in the classroom? 4. Specifically how would you promote literacy in the classroom? 5. What would you have available in the classroom? (Centers) 6. How would you assess a child's knowledge? 7. How would you respond to parents about specific accomplishments of their child? 8. What type of support would you need as a first year teahcer? 9. What do you want the children to learn by the end of the year? 10. How would you answer a parent if they asked/commented on a specific child? 11. How would you use curriculum manuals to teach a math lesson? 12. Why do you feel you would be the best candidate, what makes you unique? Alot of situational questions! KEEP YOUR HEAD UP and be sure you know where you stand on issues! Best of luck to ALL!~
well, I have taught Kdg for 5 years, so I hope I can answer some of your questions. As for the parent who thinks their child is brilliant, tell them that you will assess their child with in the first week of school and give them activiteis that are still in line with the K curric. but yet will be challenging with out stepping on 1st grade toes. I used parents for volunteers in centers everyday. Check out the KinderKorner website for any literacy ideas - she is wonderful. If a parent ask about their child in relation to another - tell them according to the time of year it is exactly how they are doing. And that it is confidential to pass out other student information.
Thank you very much Julie! I was just posting the questions to try to help someone else with specific questions that I got--Thanks for the KinderKorner info--WHAT A WONDERFUL RESOURCE---GREAT WEBSITE! Thanks again!
Thanks for sharing those questions! More questions can be found here: http://www.atozteacherstuff.com/pages/4243.shtml
Some questions I got today... these are the ones I can remember off the top of my head that were different than ones I'd been asked previously, although there were MANY more! You find out a small child (5 or 6 yrs old) is going to be home alone after school until at least 5:00... what do you do? You need to deliver some bad news to a parent; how do you do so? You're going to plan a thematic unit in your classroom, what's the first thing you do to start planning? (I was the FIRST person she'd interviewed who said I'd take a look at the standards/curriculum, and decide how they could fit into the topic, which is pretty much what she was looking for)
Update! YAY!!! They called this morning and offered the job--I accepted ofcourse! Keep your heads up and you will prevail! Good Luck Everyone!
