It was only over the phone and I have not signed anything yet but I got a call today from the 2nd school district I applied at for a job teaching Earth Science. They want to hire me for the rest of this year at the first school I interviewed at and then switch schools to the second school I interviewed at (The one who called for a interview but I did not recall applying for) for next year. They told me they needed a replacement for this year at school 1 and the science teacher from school 2 planned to move to school 1 next year and I would take that teacher's place. I was told due to them laying off people I could not sign the contract for next year for some weeks yet but could for this year. I also got a call from the district I sub for to do a long term sub position this year which I told them I'd take before I got the other call. I need to tell them I can not take that position after all. My hubby says to wait to tell them till I sign something though. I am supper excited because it is in a district where cost of living is lower, and the school they want me to work at next year is in a suburban area, and is very nice.
Awesome! And don't worry about them telling you you can't sign the contract for next year yet. I signed my contract exactly a year ago for the remainder of the school year, and then in May I got the new contract for the upcoming year.
Thanks everyone! I am just nervous because I have not signed anything yet. I know people on here in the past have been told they had a job and then it did not pan out in the end. I am crossing my fingers until I am able to sign something.
If you get other interview offers before they formalize your position, let this school know you need to take them, but really want to accept an offer once it is set in stone. You have this, but it's always acceptable to keep looking a little until the ink is dry. Bear in mind, some charters are "at will" and may not have a contract for you to sign. They may just schedule your orientation or your first day.
Thanks! Initially, I will have to drive the 50mins to 1 hour 10 mins to get there this semester, but the hubby and I plan to move over there during the summer. It is not up North where my dream location is, instead it is south and inland. It is in the mountains and I think only an hour from the Mojave dessert and beaches so it is in a good location to teach Earth Science. It also has much more affordable housing than our current location which is a big draw for the hubby and I. I am just hoping that once it is finalized I do not have to teach 0 period since it starts around 6:30am and I will have to drive it for a few months to finish out the year. Do you move soon?
This one is not a charter. I find out if I got the charter job in Downtown LA on Friday according to the principal. I still have a job fair on Friday and more interviews scheduled which I plan to keep until I sign something.
I wouldn't stop officially looking until you sign a contract for sure. Keep your interviews and attend the job fair. It doesn't hurt just in case.
Now I'm really curious LOL. I hear you on the affordable housing. We are going to be able to get a two bedroom apartment for about 2/3 of what our current one bedroom apartment costs. After a year or so, we will probably rent a 3 bedroom house, since that's cheaper than our current apartment that's less than 700 square feet! Admittedly, my salary will be less than it currently is, but it still doesn't match the housing costs. My husband and I did something similar to what you are doing two years ago - we moved about an hour away for my current job. I really hope you like your new area, and I hope you don't have to do zero period yet so far away!! We are moving about halfway through July. My current school year doesn't end until the very last day of June, and our lease is up in mid July. The new school starts mid August, but teachers start early August - so, short summer. lol.
Yea I signed my contract to finish this semester today and was reminded that the one for next semester is anticipated as long as no science folks are laid off. So of course nothing is ever promised or set in stone until you sign something. I am going to hope this pans out, but keep my options open.
She said in the first post that she's teaching Earth Science. Did you say that just to insult kindergarten teachers reading this thread?
No, Cat, Milsey said that - probably - because earlier the OP shared that she wasn't successful subbing in a Kinder class. Even then, the comment was unnecessary, because obviously no one is going to take a job in a grade level they don't like / prefer, etc.
