    Hello all!
I just accepted my first teaching position. I am now going to be the 6th grade teacher at a private school in my little home town. I am SO EXCITED! This 6th grade class is in an elementary school. So they will be the leaders and the "top dogs". The position includes teaching all subjects except for Science and Language, and will include 4th & 5th Social Studies.

ANY advice on ANY topic would be much appreciated! Everything that I did in my college classes included lower or middle elementary..not upper. So this makes me a little nervous.
Thank you in advance for any information or tips you can provide! :)

Woot woot! Enjoy the feeling and celebrate!!!

Let me know if Sprout can help you with anything. I have a ton of resource books to get up in the next two weeks which might help with content and ideas.

Congratulations! 6th graders are awesome! I was nervous about teaching them this year and found that I liked them more than the lower grades I taught previously! :D

    Congratulations!

In terms of math, middle schoolers love reality-based problems. Teach them simple interest in terms of buying a house or paying off a car loan. Cover proportions by converting dollars to and from Euros so they can travel. Permutations can be options on that car or courses in a restaurant. But keep it real, and you're far more likely to hold their interest.

    Congrats!!!
