I'm in the same boat, jw!!
We should just post quotation marks after each others posts.
I e-mailed the principal. He just e-mailed me back. I didn't get it. Which is TOTALLY fine because I didn't want it. It was a good practice for my interviews on Monday. He did say that they had another 6th grade position open up, so he would let me know about that one. Weird thing... he signed his e-mail with his first name.
That's good that he got back to you so fast cMcD. That's what I always think of interviews, each one is good practice and getting me closer to the perfect job for me. Good luck with your interview on Monday.
And that is weird that he signed his e-mail with only his first name.
This is his e-mail to me:
We did fill the position that you applied for; however, we have had another 6th grade position open up recently and I am awaiting decisions to be made upstairs if I am going to continue with our current pool or start anew. I will call you when our HR Director gets back from a short leave.
Should e-mail him back?
Aw man, jw13, I wish you felt better. The waiting is so hard, and it stinks worse when you've done everything, thrown all the balls into their court, and nothing. Can't wait to see your post that something happened!
cMcD, I would e-mail him back if you are interested in the position, just to let him know that you would like to be considered.
Today I met for 20 minutes with the P at my DD/DS. I have a demo lesson planned for Monday 21. She didn't ask me anything, but was just so positive. "I really, really want this to work out!" she said. And she had to stop herself from talking about once I get the job. "Well.. .let's take it one step at a time!"
Tomorrow is the charter school 2/3 lesson; Monday the DD/DS k/1 lesson. Here's to all of our successes!
That's really hopefull teachershelly. Good Luck on your next two demo lessons.:2up:
Good luck, Shelly!
Thanks, I'll take whatever luck I can get. I'm confident with the lessons (I've been planning, rehearsing, etc). And I got a new outfit so I'll feel swell

I am glad it is TOTALLY fine with you. What did you write in your email. Maybe you should post it since at least you got a response.
He must like you  if he signed his first name only. LOL
I was totally confused, I thought you were just practicing a lesson at your DD/DS in preparation for the 2/3 lesson.
This is great news and that P sounds so positive. You will do great. I'll be sending you good vibes today and Monday.
Can't wait to hear how they go.
Good luck today, Shelly!
It's not surprising that I've confused anyone. It's been a labrynthine story, for sure! So, I was planning to practice my 2/3 lesson on a class in my DS, but there was a problem. The only day I could do it was the day they have a sub every week, and the sub applied for the job but didn't get it. Sensitive situation, so a no go.
Today I did the demo lesson for the charter school and it was a wonderful success. The curriculum specialist told me the Found Poem lesson was terrific, the kids were wonderful (participated, wrote a great poem), and it all went like clockwork. I'll find out perhaps today, perhaps Monday, if I get an offer.
Meanwhile, DS wants a demo lesson in K/1 (my student teaching class) even though the job is a 2/3. I went in to talk with the P (I thought it was an interview but it was just a chat) yesterday. When the K/1 kids saw me, they rushed me yelling my name and hugging me. I felt so ... at home. So the demo lesson for DS is Monday at 11:00.
Meanwhile, I had to cancel my whole family's spring break vacation because of this demo today. So we're going for a weekend. I need it! And thanks for all the well-wishing. Your vibes must be working
Sounds like things went well today! I'm sending good thoughts for Monday!!
Shelly, so far, so good! I can't wait to hear about Monday's lesson. Enjoy your weekend!!!
Shelly, it sounds like your lesson went great! Have fun on your vacation and good luck with the lesson on Monday.

Bumping up this thread!
Well...it's 0/5 meeting principals when walking in my resume packet. I dropped off another one today for a new posting. Secretary was nice...hopefully she won't dump my resume in the garbage. Good news...the postings that I have applied for are still posted. *sigh* Waiting, waiting, waiting.
That is great news that the postings are still there. Bummer about the P. What will you say if you go someplace and the P is right there?
That's what freaks me out. I figured I would of course introduce myself, how I became aware of the posting(s) and see if they ask any questions. I am as prepared for questioning, in the general sense, as I can be. I would probably go into shock though if a P actually came out to speak to me. I would stutter and leave.
Is there anyone trying to apply in NY or NJ? I have applied to so many schools and now I feel like the schools have stopped posting jobs!!!!!!! I don't want to panic but I am so scared that I will be nannying come september. Not that nannying is a horrible job but I want to teach.
JW I pm'd you
b2teach, I'm applying in New York and it doesn't seem as if many districts are all that serious about hiring yet. I've had one pre-screening interview and that has been it and I know from people who have gotten jobs in previous years that not much happens until the beginning of June and people are frequently hired right up until the start of the school year in September. I think that a lot of places post the jobs and get all the applications in and sorted and then wait until they are ready to interview so it's definitely not time to panic.
Postings have stopped around here too it seems. I hope that as May comes along, more postings start to pop up. I do have that district job fair on Saturday. I have my mini portfolios, my regular portfolio, and my website all ready to go. I'm beginning to feel that as the days go by, I'm more prepared for when that perfect job posts, I'll be as prepared as I can be.
It's coming STG!!!!
Hmm... I'll join...
Good: Went to the job fair at my DD. 3,000 people applied just to go to the fair, and only 300 people were invited. We were guaranteed one interview, and then we went to a "meet and greet" with principals and could procure other interviews with that. I was invited back to two more interviews, and had two more schools tell me that they would call me this week but had already given out their allotted number of interview times. Had three really great interviews- even had two principals write down ideas that I use to present at staff meetings! One of the schools called me back for a second interview as well.
Bad: This district doesn't send out their contracts for teachers to sign until May, so I'm just sitting around waiting for a few weeks until these schools actually have jobs to post. I'm nervous because I keep getting calls for interviews in other districts, but I really want this one! And I'm annoying myself with being impatient and stressing over things
I feel exactly the same. While I'm a bit disappointed that nothing is happening (beginning to ques if my e-mail works - Yahoo su#$ big time), I'm doing more research, corrections of my doc's & reflecting on options. It may just be the time is not right yet for me.
Thanx Jessica 26. Are you applying for NYC Board of ed, charter schools or the districts around nyc? A lot of charter schools are hiring!!!!!!! Let me know if your interested and I will send you a couple of links. Where in nyc do you reside?
Sounds promising Grace.
Teachling- It is possible though not likely that your email is not making it through. Many schools have heavy duty email programs.
Also, at my corporate job, anything like Summa Cum Laude, Magna Cum Laude, or Cum Laude were rejected by our email program so make sure your initial email doesn't contain that. It is probably okay if it is in the attachment.
b2teach, I don't live in the city; I live in Central New York area, but I'm applying to just about anywhere in the state except for NYC and Long Island. Do you know of charter schools that aren't in the city?
Yes, If you go to uncommonschools.org the charter schools in Rochester are seeking teachers. They have a career fair coming up. Hope that helps.
I'll look into it, thanks!
Well, in the past 2 days I've applied for about 10+ positions. I need to calm down because I'm already getting antsy. I e-mailed most of the principals. I think I'll put together a couple paper packets and send them out. I sent out a couple paper packets to HR directors.

I am bummed. Three of the posting I applied for in my DD have been removed. I'm just sick about it. The neighboring districts haven't posted a single elem. ed. position yet. Could be good? I don't know. I have extended my apps. to include positions that they ask for experience I don't have, but what the heck. I WANT A POSITION IN ONE OF MY DD's!!!
No new postings in dream district. Though the postings in neighboring districts are still there, so that's a good thing. The district job fair I went to Sat. was a good experience, and gave me good practice for other interviews.
